Good Food Jobs is a gastro-job search tool, designed to link people looking for meaningful food work with the businesses that need their energy, enthusiasm, and intellect. We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more.

It's that time of the year when desperation for Spring sets in. For those of you in the northeast, with us, the view outside your window shows yet another inch of snow / ice / rain / grey (we're gathering you west coasters might feel the same in regard to the lack of precipitation this winter). If March is to blame for coming in like a lion this year, we're hoping that the other side of that metaphor will prove true - that calmer / warmer times are ahead, both literally and figuratively.
These times can be the toughest. The times when - especially if you are job searching - you don't really want to hear anyone say, 'It will get better', 'We promise good things are on the horizon', or 'The sun will come out soon'.
And it's okay to take a minute to say, 'You know what, I'm tired of the weather / job search / fill-in-the-blank thing that seems to be testing your limits at the moment.' Sometimes a regroup is in order to maintain your strength and your patience. A moment to wallow can do wonders. If you want company, we'll raise a pint of ice cream and cheers to that.
It can be frustrating and disheartening to wait. It's taxing to chug along and feel like you are doing everything right, just to feel like the fates are not rewarding your diligent efforts. Believe us, we know.
We'd like to share a story from a job seeker that was once walking miles in those shoes. She wrote us intermittently for over two years expressing how hard it was to even get a response from employers. She submitted application after application, not only feeling the drain of not getting an interview, but of desperately waiting to hear any response at all from an employer. It was tough.
And then, 6 months ago, she sent us an email announcing that she got a job! It was a tough decision for her, as it was lower pay than her current position, she had a long commute, and she still had to work on all of her days off at her existing position just to keep her health insurance. But the new position was at a company that she admired, and in the direction that she wanted to head.
We just heard from her again this past Sunday and she has since gotten a promotion, and a raise, and was finally able to quit her old job. She is looking for an apartment closer to where she works. It was not easy. In fact, it was FAR from easy. It took months of really hard work. But it was worthwhile. It paid off.
This week, here's to any and all of you who are feeling like your limits are being tested, your patience is wearing thin, you're wondering when it's going to work out. We hope that you get your reward. And when you do, we hope you'll share your story with us.
DON'T FORGET: WIN TICKETS TO THE JUST FOOD CONFERENCE
We're in the throes of our latest GFJ Instagram Challenge. It's funny because in last week's newsletter, we almost included a line that said, 'And be sure to bring your A-game because @gustiamo always has such incredible submissions.' We wish our prophecies were as good in picking lotto numbers because it appears that they are leading the pack with the two incredible entries below. *FYI, Gustiamo does post jobs on GFJ, so if it looks like they are having fun, join them!
In case you haven't heard, with this Instagram contest we literally want to see who uses GFJ: yes, we want to see your face. Tag your photo with #GFJselfie for a chance to win 2 Sunday-only tickets to Just Food's annual conference on April 6th, 2014. The submission with the most likes as of 8 AM on Tuesday, March 11th wins.
If you are a little to shy to submit a selfie, apply for the Scholarship. The application deadline is tomorrow Wednesday, March 5th.
See you soon,

Now that GFJ has been active for almost four (!) years, we're discovering that a lot of our gastrognomes find us, instead of the other way around. So when Kelsey sent us one enthusiastically written this-totally-makes-our-day email detailing how she found her dream job from a listing on GFJ, we couldn't wait to add her to the roster of folks that we rely on to illustrate what Good Food Jobs are, and what they mean to individuals. Receiving
testimonials from folks who use the site, whether sporadically or on a daily basis, is one of our absolute favorite parts of our daily work. Please keep the correspondence coming. Read More
