USE IT UP. WEAR IT OUT... Make do. Or do without.
When people unfamiliar with GFJ ask us about the site, they are always so curious to know what, exactly, it is that we do. And we always have a common refrain: 'We technically operate an online job search engine, but Good Food Jobs is much more than a website; it's a community.'
And this community has common denominators that extend far beyond our interest in food. Because even our interest in food is far deeper than just eating it. It's making it, growing it, learning from it, and sharing it. These pursuits always remind us about the things that we value, and the way that we want to live.
This week's words of wisdom entry has roots in the Great Depression / WWII era - and while we are fortunate to live in much more abundant times, we are constantly trying to determine how much is 'enough'. We have a hunch that a lot of you feel the same way. Here are some things that we wish for you:
- Break out the special candles, the good china, the nice quilt, the pretty scarf, or the fancy new harvest olive oil now. They are meant to be appreciated early and often - especially before they go bad.
- Savor what you do use. Maintain it. Enjoy it. Honor it. Share it.
- Be creative in finding abundance. Re-use, re-purpose, recycle, share, and swap.
- Create your own entertainment. Emphasize experiences over things. Play games. Go outside. Talk to strangers. Learn a new skill. Teach an old skill. Help someone out.
These skills / endeavors may not directly correlate with finding a job (as our culture defines it), but they do help you to become a more capable and fulfilled human. And that type of human resource is something that every employer could use.
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy
Co-Founders, Good Food Jobs
