Job description
Located in a rural and bucolic area of San Rafael, Marin Montessori School’s Junior High seeks a full-time Farm Manager for the 2017/2018 school year. The Junior High serves students in grades 7 through 9 through its innovative academic program that features land-based science curriculum, micro-business design and management, and an English curriculum that is integrated across subject areas. The successful applicant must be excited to work with young people and eager to contribute to a vibrant school that is truly a learning community. This position also offers the potential for classroom teaching opportunities, depending on the background and interests of the Farm Manager.

Key Responsibilities Include the Following:
- Continue to develop and sustain the Junior High Farm: two small gardens and an acre with row crops.
- Oversee all aspects of agricultural program, including animal husbandry.
- Work with faculty to further develop our land-based, experiential, integrated science curriculum.
- Work alongside and guide students in projects on the farm.
- Support the Micro-economy program through the land—a student run business that connects to farmers markets and builds students’ understanding of entrepreneurship, economics, and the value of practical work.
Other duties include conferencing regularly with students, writing reports, advising 6-8 students, and working and collaborating with the Junior High team of teachers.
Preferred Experience, Qualifications, and Attributes:
- Knowledge of and experience with sustainable farming.
- An interest and demonstrated ability in teaching and supporting adolescents.
- Completed or interest in completing the AMI / NAMTA Orientation to Adolescent Studies.
- A willingness and interest in implementing an integrated individualized Montessori approach to science, connecting abstract concepts and hands-on learning.
- The ability to teach to a diverse range of student abilities and levels.
- Commitment to working on a team of teachers and administrators always striving to model professionalism and collaboration in service of the school’s mission and children.
- Experience with fostering and maintaining supportive and professional relationships with enthusiastic and interested parents.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience in full-time farming.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including digital communication skills.
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds.
- Must have a clear driving record.
- Must pass the Live Scan fingerprint testing through the Department of Justice.
Salary:
This is an exempt, full-time faculty position. Start date is Friday, August 18, 2017. Position may require some occasional summer work. The salary and benefits package is very competitive.
