Cheese Plus, San Francisco's premier cheese, deli, and specialty food store located in the thriving Russian Hill neighborhood, is seeking a motivated individual to work alongside the Owner/General Manager and staff to maintain standards and drive sales goals.

The Assistant Store Manager will work daily on the sales floor teaching, training, and documenting staff performance, challenges and achievements. The person selected for this position will be a primary motivator and "standard-bearer" for the staff, to create an efficient, successful, and respectful store team. In the absence of the owner, he/she will assume the responsibilities of all store operations.

Responsibilities for this key position include:
  • Maintain storewide standards
  • Meet and exceed sales goals
  • Train, motivate and develop staff
  • Corrective counseling and documentation
  • Troubleshoot and execute well-reasoned, timely decisions
  • Daily floor supervision
  • Cashiering and cash balances
  • Maintain physical plant and security
  • All aspects of customer service on the sales floor, including standard team member performance requirements
  • All aspects of store management in the absence of the owner

Qualifications: If you have the following experience and capabilities, apply now to provide leadership to a winning team:
  • Previous leadership experience including training, scheduling, coaching, corrective counseling and documentation
  • 2+ years of retail or restaurant experience, including direct customer service, food production and/or product merchandising, inventory and gross margins, store maintenance and sanitation, cashiering and cash handling, and store security
  • Computer skills including Excel and Word. Knowledge of POS and scale file maintenance a plus
  • Good organizational skills with paper, products, and space
  • Time management, multi-tasking, and follow-through skills
  • Excellent English communications skills, including proper phone, email and direct communication language and etiquette
  • Desire to serve/work with others to create and enhance a positive and efficient goal directed workplace
  • A high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and dependability
  • Proven ability to meet sales, customer service and scheduling goals
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to collaborate positively in a hands-on small team environment
  • Good basic math skills (add and subtract accurately without paper or calculator)
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the job duties, including (but not limited to): lifting 40+ lbs. of product on a regular basis; working in and out of walk-in refrigerators; working safely with kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals; climbing stairs and walking/standing throughout the entire workday; and regular, dependable attendance.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background check.
This is a full-time position, with eligibility for overtime pay. The hours will include some night shifts, typically no later than 9:30 PM, and may include mornings and midday shifts. Weekend shifts required for maximum exposure to customers and staff.
