Community Garden Coordinator


Reports to:  Director of Community Engagement

About Our Community Garden Programs:
City Green offers a variety of garden programs geared toward adult community members:

Dig In!  is our Passaic County-wide community garden program providing assistance to 50 independent community gardens in Passaic County.

New Ground includes urban greening and beautification initiatives, an annual garden contest, gardening workshops and educational programs and community events.


Position Summary:
The Community Garden Coordinator will support all aspects of City Green’s New Ground and Dig In! programs and interact with diverse groups of adults. The ideal candidate will have a warm and engaging disposition while working with members of the community on gardening and beautification projects and events. The Community Garden Coordinator’s time will be spent on outreach activities, conducting educational programming, supporting community garden groups and coordinating community events.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Outreach and recruitment for Dig In! and New Ground programs
  • Planning and implementing community-based beautification and greening projects with a variety of community groups.
  • Planning and conducting gardening and environmental workshops with community groups and/or organizations
  • Providing on-going support and assistance to Dig In! Community Gardens
  • Planning and coordinating City Green’s annual Strawberry Festival, Spring Garden Conference, and Harvest Festival events
  • Outreach, coordination and implementation of the Greenest Place in Paterson Garden Contest
  • Performing other duties as needed by the organization

 
Qualifications:

  • Interest and experience working with diverse groups of community members or community organizing
  • Basic knowledge of gardening
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Project management and administrative organizational skills a must
  • Direct experience independently implementing workshops or public speaking
  • Comfortable working outside in all weather and capable of lifting 40 pounds
  • Team player and have the ability to work independently
  • High energy and a consistently positive attitude is a must
  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available some evenings and weekends


The position starts March 27th and is full-time seasonal.


Compensation

this position is: salaried, less than 50k
