Greenmarket Education Coordinator Position Description

Reporting to the Greenmarket Assistant Director, this full-time position requires experience in nutrition education, agriculture, food studies, or a related field. The Greenmarket Education Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing school tours, senior tours, professional tours, and summer youth programming and the curricula and materials that support these. The position requires a creative, enthusiastic individual who will grow existing initiatives, develop new ideas, and expand our offerings.

 

Responsibilities

Below is a list of some, but not all, of the Education Coordinator’s duties:

  • Create, expand, publicize and evaluate curricular offerings, currently focused on K-12 and older adults, and lead tours approximately one day per week
  • Formalize and oversee “adult tours” (paid tours for groups)
  • Develop new indoor/winter programming to be hosted at GrowNYC’s new Project Farmhouse
  • Manage the project budget and help ensure ongoing funding through fees and grants
  • Supervise and train tour coordinators, including paid staff, volunteers and Dietetic Interns
  • Develop relationships with farmers to gauge their interest and ability to participate
  • Work with Regional Coordinators and market managers to ensure support/materials for tours
  • Partner with likeminded education and nutrition organizations to support and grow our efforts
  • Partner with other GrowNYC educational initiatives on programming and outreach

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree at  minimum
  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture and nutrition
  • Experience teaching a variety of ages and knowledge of the NYC school system
  • Resourceful, creative, energetic and flexible to respond to diverse, strong personalities and daily questions that accompany operating open-air events in New York City
  • Excellent communication, customer service and marketing skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Able to provide accurate details about daily operations as well as big-picture explanations of program mission
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English a plus

Compensation

this position is: salaried, less than 50k
