Homestead offers design-installation, full-service organic maintenance, harvesting, bee keeping, garden coaching, floristry and composting services. Current projects range from community, kitchen, and rooftop gardens, residential landscapes, and the Sonoma test gardens for Sunset Magazine. 

Job description

Responsibilities:

As an Edible Gardener for Homestead Design Collective, you'll be responsible for planting and maintaining a variety of beautiful, edible gardens. You'll provide organic pest control, fertilizing, succession planting, fruit tree pruning, and more. Additionally, you'll harvest all fruits, vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers for your clients. Client correspondence is a large part of the job; after each visit, you'll send clients pictures of their harvest and recipe ideas. You will also be available to answer questions and provide hands-on personal instruction. You'll get to explore a variety of garden styles and client needs as you work on projects ranging from rooftop cafeteria gardens, residential landscapes, community gardens, and magazine test gardens. 

Details: 
This position pays $20/hr, with benefits if you're working over 30 hours a week. This position could be part time or full time; we have some flexibility for the right fit. You will be working in gardens all over the San Francisco Bay Area, and we prefer that you are based in the East Bay, South Bay, or San Francisco city. 

You will excel in this role if you have: 

• A "Can Do" attitude and are willing to pitch in wherever needed; we are small but highly efficient company where we all wear many hats
• A friendly and respectful attitude; you will be interacting with clients with a range of needs and knowledge of gardening
• Basic writing and computer skills to write emails to our clients and record detailed notes
• Experience and passion for edible garden or farm work
• Critical attention to detail

Qualifications Desired: 

• 6 months edible gardening or farming experience minimum
• Must have a valid CA driver's license and regular access to a working vehicle- we're based in the East Bay but have clients throughout the Bay Area- you must be willing to drive 
• Working cell phone (smart phone preferred) 
• Ability to lift 45 lbs 
• Computer/laptop to access documents difficult to view/edit on a mobile device 

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15/hr +
