The Sweet Praxis is a soon-to-be-open bakery and café located in the Hanover Square neighborhood of Downtown Syracuse, NY.  We provide our community with a variety of sweet and savory baked goods created with the highest quality local, seasonal and organic ingredients whenever possible and we welcome guests with a variety of dietary preferences including gluten free and vegan.  We provide customers with a full line of retail bakery products, and aim to introduce breakfast and lunch items as well as increase our wholesale and private catering orders. Our bakery aims to minimize our waste stream and rely heavily on compostable and recyclable packaging. 

Job description

We are looking to hire motivated, friendly foodie people that will take great care of our customers.  Ideal candidates should be positive, willing to take direction and multitask, offer up ideas, and be eager to step in to assist with bakery or lunch prep work.  Customer service or restaurant/cafe/coffee shop experience is a plus, but not necessary.  Flexibility is a must as shifts vary from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. This position is year-round, 20-35 hours per week.  Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with the applicant’s previous experience.

• Must have excellent organization and communication skills
• Must be punctual- timeliness and reliability is very important
• Self-motivation and self-accountability
• A passion for good food
• Basic math and computer skills
• Flexible schedule with availability to work weekends and holidays

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Striving for the highest level of customer service
• Maintaining a clean and organized bakery
• Bakery displays
• Preparing coffee and other beverages
• Point of sale transactions
• Packaging
• Answering phone calls and taking orders
• Assisting with bakery and lunch prep
• Lifting heavy things (up to 50 lbs)
• Long hours on feet

Compensation

this position is: hourly, under $15/hr
