The California Olive Oil Council is a trade association with the mission of encouraging the consumption of certified California extra virgin olive oil through education, outreach and communications.

A member-based organization, the COOC represents over 90% of the olive oil growers and producers from the state of California. Throughout the year, the COOC conducts education and outreach to promote the California olive oil industry through events and trade shows. Additionally, the COOC upholds its strict allegiance to maintaining quality standards throughout the industry with the Seal Certification Program. Through this program, all COOC member producers must submit a sample of their oil each harvest year to ensure that it meets criteria to be marketed as “extra virgin,” the highest grade an olive oil may receive. Over 500 oils were certified under this program for the 2015 harvest.

Job description

The California Olive Oil Council (COOC) would like to announce the opportunity for a part-time marketing and sensory program coordinator beginning July 2017.   This is a part-time position of approximately 14-18 hours per week. The position is temporary with the potential to transition to permanent after three months.

The marketing and sensory program coordinator will work closely with staff to help with the preparation and administration of the COOC taste panel, the certifying body for the Seal Certification Program. Candidate will have the opportunity to learn about olive oil sensory science, in addition to gaining a thorough understanding of the range of California olive oils and their adherence to quality standards.

Additionally, coordinator will assist with the implementation of marketing initiatives and campaigns. Coordinator will assist in the management of website updates and social media calendars as well as contribute to the preparation for activities such as olive oil media dinners, tastings and trade shows. On occasion, coordinator will serve as a representative of the organization for exhibitions or presentations.

The marketing and sensory program coordinator will also assist with varying administrative duties and take responsibility for the management of the COOC’s membership system. This includes processing all incoming memberships, reviewing website content to ensure it is up to date and managing the organization database.

Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience preferred. Schedule is flexible, however candidate must have availability on Thursdays. The COOC is a non-profit organization with a small staff, so the ideal candidate will be flexible in the completion of a variety of tasks.


Coordinator will assist the COOC staff with duties including:

-Collection and tracking of olive oil samples and Seal Certification paperwork

-Preparation of Seal Certification result charts

-Sharing, tracking and updating of COOC social media

-Communication of COOC goals and programs along with distribution of COOC marketing materials

-Preparation and execution of varying olive oil education and tasting events

-Management and oversight of membership renewals, processing and data collection

-Administrative support and functioning including registration and payment collection, tracking and receipt

 


The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

-1-2 years experience with the implementation of marketing initiatives

-Diligent organizational skills with an attention to detail

-Team leadership

-Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; experience delivering   educational initiatives or public speaking preferred

-An interest in agriculture and the California olive oil industry

-Initiative and flexibility to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

-Ability to meet deadlines and produce results under short deadlines with competing priorities

- A positive, enthusiastic, committed, creative and resourceful attitude 

-Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, Filemaker, Adobe Photoshop and PowerPoint

-Experience with website management and proficiency with social media platforms, including Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

-Proficiency with online marketing software such as Constant Contact,   Survey Monkey, Eventbrite, etc.

-Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 30 lbs.

-Valid Driver’s License

this position is: hourly, $15/hr +
