Job Summary
The Sylvia center seeks a dynamic, informed, experienced Education Director for New York City programs that reach over 2,000 students and families each year. The Education Director works directly with Executive Director to manage and implement The Sylvia Center’s learning and program development strategies, oversees Sylvia Center sites and programs throughout New York City, manages all program partnerships and teaching staff, develops program materials, and oversees evaluation strategies.
Job Responsibilities
- Manages Cooks For Health NYCHA programs including site selection, staffing, scheduling, overseeing kitchens, food ordering and managing equipment inventory.
- Manages TSC’s Train the Trainer Program, including material development, program recruitment, implementation and participant support and follow up.
- Manages of TSC’s Teen Culinary Apprenticeship Program including curriculum development, scheduling, coordinating with program partners and schools.
- Hires and manages part-time culinary staff and conducts regular observations and annual chef instructor reviews.
- Develops and maintain relationships with all program partner organizations.
- Manages and coordinates TSC’s evaluation process.
- Works with Director of Development to help develop and draft city program grant applications.
- Works with Executive Director to help develop future programs and plan program expansion.
- Represents The Sylvia Center at community events and fundraising events that benefit TSC.
- Writes weekly updates for board and city program updates for monthly newsletter.
- Develops curriculum and creates plant-based recipes that are appropriate for children and represents the TSC philosophy.
- Teaches 1-2 programs a year.
Required Qualifications:
- Culinary Degree or equivalent professional experience and a minimum of 2 years experience teaching children culinary skills
- Minimum of three years of program management experience
- Experience working with low-income communities
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to effectively improvise and adapt
- Detail-oriented, responsible, and focused
