Job description

Stone Barns Center has an immediate opening for a full-time Accounting and Human Resources Manager to join a young and growing organization during a crucial period in which aggressive growth is expected and required to support expansive programmatic goals that advance the organization’s mission.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting tasks for an $8 million and growing operating budget (including both contributed and earned revenue streams) and the HR tasks for a staff of 50+. The department consists of the Director, Manager and a part-time assistant. The current accounting system is maintained in Quickbooks and the HR/Payroll system is maintained on an online platform provided by the third party service provider Paychex. The work requires a deep financial accounting background and the ability to handle a full and diverse workload that spans basic accounting work to complex reconciliations, all with impeccable precision and flawless attention to detail. The Manager will also assist in advancing the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

Accounting and Finance Responsibilities:
• Maintain integrity and accuracy of all financial data in Quickbooks
• Monitor Farm Store Intuit Point-of-Sale system integration with Quickbooks
• Record revenue from donors and account for restricted donations
• Manage customer invoicing and record other sources of earned revenue
• Manage the Farm Sales database (in FileMaker Pro)
• Review and complete the weekly income report
• Reconcile and record credit card revenue and settlements from multiple merchant accounts (POS, website, third party ticketing agent, mobile credit card app)
• Process vendor and other bills and cut checks
• Monitor cash flow
• Record journal entries
• Perform bank reconciliations
• Review and monitor department and project budgets
• Prepare schedules, provide documents and facilitate the annual audit
• Prepare 1099’s

Human Resources Responsibilities:
• Manage the employee onboarding and off boarding processes and administer other staff changes in Paychex
• Maintain up to date personnel information and files
• Process bi-weekly payroll
• Train staff in use of Paychex online human resource and time tracking system
• Assist with annual healthcare enrollment, including review of plan options with insurance broker, communication of options to employees and assistance with enrollment paperwork
• Administer healthcare changes throughout the year and monitor premiums and employee deductions for accuracy
• Administer other benefits such as Life Insurance, Short and Long Term Disability, Flexible Spending Accounts, 401K Plan and COBRA
• Manage communications with external agencies such as employment verifications and employment surveys

In addition, the Manager will assist the Director with:
• Insurance
• Information Technology
• Facilities and office administration
• Ad hoc projects, analysis and research

Required Skills and Experience:
• Commitment to Stone Barns Center’s mission
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a CPA a big plus
• Substantial work experience in a similar financial accounting capacity
• Human Resources experience or accounting work related to HR
• Knowledge of Quickbooks and not-for-profit accounting, highly preferred
• Excellent computer skills, particularly excel, and strong analytical skills
• Quick learner with strong attention to detail and ability to keep track of a large amount of information
• Well organized, able to prioritize and manage a full and diverse workload, take initiative and be proactive
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Displays sound judgement and a high level of discretion
• Reliable, responsible, diligent and conscientious
• Professional maturity and strong interpersonal skills

Compensation:
Stone Barns Center offers a salary commensurate with experience and comparable to other non-profits in this area and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, a 401k plan and paid time off. This is a full time, exempt position.
