Job description
The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Connecticut is seeking a full time Agricultural Program and Events Manager. CT NOFA is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the practices of ecologically sound farming and gardening, and to the development of local sustainable agriculture. Our efforts support organic farmers and give consumers increased access to safe and healthy food.Responsibilities:
- Carry out CT NOFA’s Beginning Farmer education, JourneyPerson, technical assistance and related programs
- Collaborate with the six other NOFA chapters, as well as other organizations, on beginning farmer programs and grants
- Act as liaison with board of directors' Farmer Education and Marketing committees
- Organize and implement events such as on- farm workshops, homeowner workshops, the Getting Started in Organic Farming Conference and small fundraisers
- Assist with organizing and publicizing the organization's Winter Conference, as well as other events and fundraisers
- Develop print and digital promotional materials
- Assist with website development and maintenance
- Manage CT NOFA’s social media to promote mission, programs and events
- Publicize CT NOFA programs and events with press releases to print and online publications and listservs, as well as with e-mail blasts and enewsletters
- Write press releases and manage distribution and follow up
- Work with partner organizations to promote events and to co-host or sponsor events
- Compile, edit and publish the monthly Gleanings enewsletter, as well as quarterly issues of the Farmers enewsletter
- Represent and promote CT NOFA at conferences, fairs, farmers markets and trade shows
- Recruit and manage one intern at a time throughout the year
- Be part of a team that helps identify prospective members, sponsors, advertisers, grantors, donors, and other partners in order to increase CT NOFA's revenue, and helps develop and maintain strong relationships with them and close deals
- Draft proposals for small grants (up to $5,000) and assist with proposals for larger grants
- Write small grant reports, and provide input for larger grant reports
- Perform other related tasks and duties as needed
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, non-profit management or related fields preferred
- Knowledge of local food systems, organic farming and sustainability preferred
- Self-motivated, responsible and highly organized in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Working knowledge of the following:
- Microsoft Office
- Constant Contact
- Social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Blogger
- Html or web development language, experience with Drupal or Dreamweaver
- Online surveying and reporting tools such as Wufoo and Google Analytics.
- Familiarity with Filemaker and InDesign a plus
