Job description
The Communications Manager will implement online and select print communication initiatives for Slow Food USA in support of the organization’s programmatic, public engagement, fundraising and list acquisition goals.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop, curate and distribute print and digital materials, including:
-
Membership collateral, including brochures and postcards
-
Annual Reports
-
Various other publications and materials such as programmatic handbooks, recipe cards, buttons, banners, and more, as determined appropriate to advance communications strategies

Create online communications assets, including:
-
E-newsletters and emails
-
Slow Food USA website: manage content creation, maintenance and design
-
Social networking platforms: implement social media communications, particularly Slow Food USA’s Twitter and Facebook feeds, and oversee development of new social and mobile media platforms, as appropriate/necessary

Work in close collaboration with the program teams to launch and manage campaigns and other communications needs that support programmatic priorities

Support development of online and direct mail membership acquisition, renewal and additional gift appeals, including working with development staff to develop campaign designs and appeal language

Support development of other stewardship materials for individuals, leaders, and institutional donors, as developed in collaboration with development staff

Grow the number of people Slow Food USA reaches through strategies including:

Email acquisition campaigns
-
Cause-related marketing opportunities
-
List chaperones and exchanges, as well as organizational cross-promotions
-
Magazine, media and other content-related partnerships
-
Manage communications contracts, including
-
IT consultants performing back-end email and web construction
-
Freelance writing assignments, as appropriate/necessary
-
Graphic & web design, as appropriate/necessary
Desired skills, knowledge and abilities:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least three years related experience
-
Professional experience developing and curating social media followers, particularly on Twitter and Facebook
-
Interest and skills in designing online and printed pieces that grab and hold attention, and that reinforce a message and brand
-
Experience in developing online campaigns in support of programmatic, development and list acquisition goals
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to master complex issues, convey information clearly and communicate a compelling and inspired vision

Proficiency in a wide array of communications and information management software, including the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, CRM databases such as MySQL and/or Salesforce, email clients such as Exact Target, as well as some knowledge of HTML
-
Passion for changing the way people eat and think about their food, as well as some knowledge of the food movement

Strong interpersonal communication and relationship skills, including ability and desire to work well as part of a team

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
-
Ability to work long hours and weekends on occasion, when needed
-
Ability to travel infrequently for Slow Food events, conferences and meetings, including internationally
Classification: Full-time Exempt Employee
Compensation: Initial compensation of $40,000 - $45,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits included.
