Job description

The Food Craft Institute (FCI) is a non-profit organization that works to create and improve the viability of small and medium-scale value-added food businesses in rural and urban America. FCI’s programs combine classroom and hands-on education to teach traditional food-making techniques alongside the entrepreneurship skills needed to turn those skills into viable businesses.

FCI models entrepreneurship in the management of the organization. To that end, the Board of Directors offers great autonomy to the ED and seeks to create parameters in which he or she can operate and clear financial targets without mandating a step-by-step approach to how those objectives are to be achieved. We are looking for a leader who will thrive in that management context and who is excited to take ownership of this period of growth.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct Food Craft Institute curricula and courses including four intensive courses in specific subject matter (coffee, cheesemaking, etc.) and up to four skill-specific courses such as business management and food safety;
  • Direct the annual Eat Real Festival fundraising event, and drive the creation of additional events in other geographies;
  • Manage organizational finances including creation and implementation of annual budgets and direct administrative and operational activities including accounting, payroll and employee benefits programs;
  • Manage a staff of 3 full-time year round employees and up to 15 part-time employees;
  • Act as primary spokesperson of Food Craft Institute and Eat Real Festival with media and greater network of partners and collaborators;
  • Provide information and counsel to the Board of Directors in the creation of policies, programs, and strategic direction of the organization, and documents all activities pertaining to courses and events;

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10 years of work experience in Non-Profits or food businesses;
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, reporting and budgetary oversight.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

This is a full-time, exempt position. The compensation package includes a competitive salary, medical benefits and paid vacation and holidays. This position requires periodic Saturday and evening work.
