What We Seek
The Food Project is currently seeking a collaborative and conscientious person with strong communication and organizational skills to become our Grants Manager. You will oversee and implement an ambitious schedule of proposal and report preparation, as well as coordinate the related activities of the Executive Director, the Director of Development and the North Shore Regional Director. You will plan, track and manage the relationship-building, grantseeking, and stewardship processes for all institutional grantmakers. You will be responsible for writing compelling, informative, and effective proposals and reports, and will oversee and work closely with our Development Associate, whose principal responsibility is writing grants and reports.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the grantseeking process with private and family foundations, government grantmakers, corporate foundations, and other partners, in order to meet a significant portion of the annual budget in grants from these funders (approximately $2 million in fiscal year 2011).
- Knowing, understanding and compellingly conveying the mission, vision, and values of The Food Project.Participating in annual planning and fundraising goalsetting, implementing planned activities with regard to grantmakers, and regularly reviewing progress towards goals.
- Managing the development team’s workload related to institutional funders in order to meet deadlines and handle unexpected work.Developing proposal concepts with management and programmatic staff.
- Preparing and editing letters of interest, proposals, reports and updates. Prospecting, researching and cultivating potential new funders and building new relationships.
- Managing and cultivating relationships through meetings, site visits, phone calls and event invitations.
- Working with the Business Manager to develop budgets for proposals and financial reports for funders.
- Maintaining regular contact with program staff to gather information about programs, communicate commitments to and expectations of funders, ensure effective and valuable evaluation, and manage restricted donations.
- Maintaining accurate electronic and paper tracking systems and files.
- Directing and mentoring the development associate and overseeing his grantwriting and report preparation duties.
- At least three years of grantwriting experience.B.A. or equivalent life experience.
- Excellent writing, editing, and research skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a problem-solving attitude.
- Demonstrated qualities of both a team player and a self-starter.
- Ability to stay focused in a busy work environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with Greater Boston and North Shore communities and funders preferred.
- Experience working with budgets and financial reporting.
- Experience with The Raiser’s Edge fundraising software advantageous.
