Job description
Seeking freelance writers, bloggers and contributors for Nona Brooklyn – a website dedicated to helping Brooklynites discover good food and learn about the people growing, making and selling that food. What do we mean by good food? Food produced or sold by local, sustainable, artisanal, and unique growers, makers, chefs and purveyors.
We are looking primarily for Brooklyn-based writers with a love for and knowledge of good food and drink in the borough. Most of our content is interview-based, so candidates must be comfortable with and experienced in setting up and conducting interviews. Must also be able to work on a deadline.
Candidates with published content preferred but all pitches considered. NONA is published every weekday, so we are partial to contributors who can post on a regular (weekly / bi / monthly) basis.
Writers should have both a digital audio recorder for conducting and transcribing interviews, and a decent digital camera with the skills to use it.
We are also looking for local and regional farmers, makers, purveyors and chefs who are interested in contributing – telling their own stories in their own words.
Examples of articles we are looking for include Profiles/Interviews of local growers, makers, purveyors and chefs; Guides (to good meat, coffee, beer, etc.), Local food history and more. No reviews.
Payment is on a per-story basis. Amount of pay will depend on length/complexity of each submission. Interested candidates should please send a brief resume (or LinkedIn), Twitter handle and relevant writing samples to info@nonabrooklyn.com.
Let us know your interests, main areas of expertise and the frequency with which you realistically expect to commit.
This is a fun AND paid opportunity for writers in Brooklyn with a passion for seeking out and sharing good food news, and the stories behind the people growing, making, serving, selling and loving good food and drink here in Brooklyn. We look forward to hearing from you!
