Fishkill Farms is a 150 acre fruit and vegetable farm located in East Fishkill, NY. The vegetable production team grows 20 acres of vegetables using organic methods for a 200-member CSA, an on-site farm store, wholesale outlets, and three farmers markets in NYC. Our production scale and location make us a unique place to learn about a wide variety of crops and farm enterprises as well as marketing techniques.

Job Description: Crew members will participate in every aspect of vegetable growing, including greenhouse work, planting, hand and tractor cultivation, disease and pest management, harvesting, and washing and packing.  In addition they will attend and run one market in the city each week.

Schedule: This is a seasonal, full-time position beginning in the spring (April or May) and ending in late fall (November or December).  Work is spread over 5½ days/week. Hours average out over the season to around 50/week. 

Compensation: Compensation starts at $500/week and includes produce from the farm.  Consideration of higher salary will be given to candidates with substantial (several years) farming experience.  On-farm housing may be a possibility.  While this is a field crew position rather than an educational internship, crew members are encouraged to participate in area CRAFT meetings and workshops.

Qualifications:  We seek mature individuals who are responsible, communicate well with others, and enjoy working hard.  You must have the ability and interest to perform physically challenging and repetitive tasks in all weather conditions and be able to comfortably and safely lift and carry 50 lbs.  Applicants should be detail-oriented and ready to take on the demanding schedule, pace, and inevitable challenges of a farming season with consistency and good humor.  We like to work fast, so crew members should possess the ability to work quickly and efficiently, and the desire to learn to work faster.  We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about organic agriculture and is interested in pursuing a career in farming. At least one full season on a production farm strongly preferred but not required.  You must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and your own transportation.
