The Swarthmore Co-op is looking for an Assistant Grocery Manager!

We are looking for a dynamic Assistant Grocery Manager.  We need someone that has experience working as a part of the grocery team and understands the importance of local, organic, and sustainable products.  This position needs to be held by someone that has food sensibility and a passion for what the Co-op is all about.  We are looking for someone that can uphold our product standards and is aware of the type of companies we buy our products from.  This is a full-time position, with benefits after 90 days.  

Basic Function

The Assistant Grocery Manager’s chief responsibility to the Grocery Manager and members is to maintain a comprehensive grocery selection that is well-organized and dependably stocked.  The Assistant Grocery Manager helps supervise a team of people who assist in the general upkeep of the department as well as assist with the receiving and packing out of the day’s deliveries.  This person is responsible for designated product purchases that are discussed with the Grocery Manager, organization, and merchandizing throughout the department.  Additionally the Assistant Grocery Manger helps to maintain, grow and run a successful department while ensuring morale of employees and upholding the vision and mission statement of the Co-op.  

Responsibilities  
• Assist the Grocery Manager in meeting departmental labor, sales and margin goals.
• In absence of the Department Manager, assume full authority and responsibilities of that position.
• Respond to challenging situations in a positive and professional manner including proposing new ideas or better ways of doing things.
• Assure grocery pack-outs are performed in a neat, correct and timely manner.    
• Maintain product cost and price in POS system.
• Maintain product auditing and shelf tags-creating new ones for new product and maintaining older ones-especially if a product is moved to a different area of the store/shelf.
• Assure the prompt delivery of special orders to members.
• Ongoing price checks on normal merchandise and sale merchandise (weekly and monthly specials, 10 for 30 items)-if a product is off sale making sure we remove any old sale price signs when the sale is over.
• Coordinate with the Grocery Manager on end cap planning and in-store merchandising. strategies/displays
• Stocking and Receiving.
• Order and maintain grocery stock in conjunction with the Grocery Manager.
• Oversee and participate in periodic inventory counts.
• Assist receiving manager when needed.
• Ensure shelves/coolers are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness and turnover.
• Minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and maximize sales and turnover.
• Attend quarterly staff meetings.
• Any other duties as assigned.  

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Direct and supervise other grocery team members and role model excellent customer service for staff and provide excellent internal service to staff and peers.  

Skills and Qualifications
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb.
• Must be available to work during the week and weekends.

Experience
• Prior managerial experience required.
• Prior grocery experience required.
