Job description

THE COMPANY

Cellars at Jasper Hill is an innovative 22,000 square foot underground facility located in Greensboro, VT. The Cellars were constructed within Jasper Hill Farm for the purpose of providing affinage, or aging expertise, as well as distribution and marketing services for local cheesemakers so that they may access the burgeoning market for artisan cheese nationwide. Cellars at Jasper Hill strives to be the standard bearer of quality and innovation in the artisan cheese industry. The community of people behind this mission are just as important to its success as the award winning cheeses in its collection.

THE POSITION

As interest in Jasper Hill’s growing collection widens, a focus on the people out there who make it all possible is especially important– the cheesemongers. The highest-end cheeses don’t simply sell themselves off of supermarket shelves. They require special care, attention, and hand selling - someone to tell the story and put cheeses in end-customers’ mouths. This position will center on communicating and supporting this core group, as well as on other responsibilities related to communication, travel, hospitality and education. An ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, energetic, creative, relentless, diplomatic and flexible.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Service as a representative of the farmers, cheesemakers and team behind the Cellars collection. Communication of our mission, progress, and vision for the future.
  • Relationship management with the sales teams of distribution customers, as well as with the chefs and mongers these customers work with.
  • Travel to educate, train, and support customers and their events and shows.
  • Digital Media ownership and development
  • Communication and order harvesting for planned features and structured call-list execution
  • Participation in a variety of Cellars team-based work: hospitality, sensory and education & events
  • PR support – press, media, and community relations
  • Direct account management is an eventual possibility
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS MAY INCLUDE
(in order of importance)
  • A bachelor’s degree (cultural/environmental/social studies, journalism, marketing, communications or culinary/gastronomy background a plus)
  • A year or more of cheese-mongering experience, ideally behind a cut and wrap retail counter. (hands-on cheese experience is required)
  • Strong oral and written interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Word (illustration layout) and Excel – Illustrator or Photoshop skills a plus
  • Experience with digital media work
  • Public speaking, group presentation, education or training experience
  • Some restaurant experience, front or back of house – wine/beer acumen a plus
  • Professional copywriting or written communications
  • Financial literacy – managerial experience with financial accountability, esp. ‘open book’ familiarity
ADDITIONAL DETAILS

It is a firm requirement that applicants be able to live in the remote, rural, subarctic, gorgeous Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Our region is known for its agricultural landscape, entrepreneurial spirit and the high-quality artisan food and drink. Once rooted in this magical place, applicant must be able to bear the thought of spending intermittent time away from their new home, out on the road.
