Christie’s offers over 450 sales annually in over 80 categories, including all areas of fine and decorative arts, jewelry, photographs, collectibles, wine, and more.
THE POSITION
The Wine Department is currently seeking a Junior Specialist.
DUTIES
Pre-Sale/Catalogue Production
- Inspects incoming wine to determine conditions and confirm quantities, vintages, bottle sizesFlags any authenticity concerns and/or condition issues in a timely manner for appropriate specialist
- Manuscripts property
- Associates barcodes to manuscripts or lot numbersAssists with proofreading
- Enters corrections in Christie’s system
- Works on appraisals as needed
- Completes cellar inventories as needed
- Packs up cellars with specialists as needed
- Enters tasting notes in Christie’s system for the catalogues
- Supplies condition reports and/or photos for clients as needed
- Attends sales
- Performs phone bids/limit bids as needed
- Other general sale support
- Organizes BI Lots with Administrator and appropriate Specialist (RTO, RO, hold for future consideration, etc.).
- Contacts clients and Business Manager along with specialists if there are any discrepancies or issues that are departmental.
- Supports specialists as needed at tastings and events hosted both on and off premises
- General warehouse support as needed
- Updates the department’s Rolling Estimates
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, WSET, Sommelier certification Preferred.
- Minimum 2 years paid experience in Wine.
- Strong knowledge of wine regions, producers and the auction market.
- Knowledge of E-mail, Spreadsheet, Word Processing and Presentation software (Microsoft Office preferred).
- Ability to learn Christie’s systems including Siebel, Property System, intranet, and website.
- Rigorous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication.
- Strong client service skills.
- Proven ability to follow-up.
- Ability to travel for days or weeks at a time if asked.
- Work is performed primarily in a warehouse setting and much of the time involves working within a 55 degree wine storage facility.
- May include local off-site visits to various client settings (private, corporate and institution.).
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate; will vary for external locations.
- Must be able to travel.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds easily and consistently.
- Must be able to work in a temperature controlled warehouse setting.
Basic office equipment including personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, scanner, office supplies.
