Woodshop Assistant

  • Date Posted July 21, 2013

Job description

My name is Nils Wessell from www.BrooklynButcherBlocks.com and I'm looking for an assistant to help me in my woodshop.  We focus on kitchenware, primarily cutting boards, butcher blocks and countertops.  We also make knife racks and serving boards.  Next in line is a wine rack, oyster board, sushi board, and an end grain butcher block table.

The position is part-time to start, at $12/hr.  Come September-December there will definitely be much much more work on the production side of things, and most certainly will be at least full time.

The Job: You will be helping with with glue ups, sanding, routing, maintenance, shipping and cleaning.  Eventually, you will be milling wood as well.  Truth is, you'll be doing a little bit of everything just like myself.

Who I'm looking for: Some who is dependable, hard-working, and who is looking for work to be done even after completing a set of tasks I've given him/her.  While a background in woodworking is nice, it's not at all a necessity.  The above qualities are much more important.

If desired, this can also be combined with the Market Attendant position.  The short of it is that I will need someone to attend the weekly or monthly (TBD) events that the New Amsterdam Market holds.  These markets will begin in the fall.
