Job description
The International Culinary Center is seeking a Librarian to oversee the school’s libraries at the New York City and Campbell, CA, campuses. The Librarian, who will report to the Director of Education, will help maintain the school’s library collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials, and assist groups and individuals in locating, obtaining, and using materials. In addition, the Librarian will be responsible for working on curriculum development.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Library:
- Circulation
- Furnish information on library activities, facilities, rules, and services on an as-needed basis
- Make selective acquisitions and process these materials to enhance the school’s curriculum and meet the needs of the school community
- Maintain library website/online presence and library’s electronic resources, including new projects as needed
- Perform annual inventory and weeding to assess status of the collection
- Track acquisition budget to monitor costs; provide expenditure information on a monthly basis to the Director of Education
- Assist with acquisitions, collection management, and other projects for the library at the The International Culinary Center in Campbell, CA.
- Manage library assistants with respect to scheduling, customer service, and timely project delivery
Curriculum development projects:
- Work on curriculum development projects, such as proof-reading and copy-editing, from raw manuscript form through completed curriculum ready for delivery
- Carry out research and process/compile requests for research information on requested topics for Department of Education needs
- Perform additional project-based work, as required to ensure the success of the Department of Education
Requirements
- MLS/MLIS or equivalent
- Strong culinary background/evidence of serious interest (especially cookbooks)
- Two or more years of library experience, preferably with exposure to many different aspects of library management
Desired Qualifications
- Management experience
- Experience with library/education programs: Follett Destiny, OCLC Connexion, Moodle, Wordpress, Livestream, SharePoint, Overdrive, EBSCOHost, InDesign, etc.
- Experience with building an e-book collection
- Experience with the following aspects of running a library:
- Creating/following a budget
- Collection development
- Cataloging
- Reference
- Library Instruction
- Library-based programming (book clubs, author visits, movie nights)
- Maintaining a website and social media presence
- Supervising/scheduling library assistants
- Demonstrated interest/affinity for social media
- Significant editing/writing experience
