The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides education, resources and expertise to help farmers succeed in organic and sustainable production. We organize numerous events, provide a wide range of resources, and offer customized information to our constituents. MOSES is best known for organizing the largest annual organic farming conference in the country. MOSES has an annual budget of over $1.4 million, with 9 full-time staff. Job Summary:
The Operations Director’s high level responsibilities include: managing and coordinating MOSES’ daily operations, with direct supervision of Office Administration, IT, budgets, and Organic Specialist teams. This person will work closely with the Executive Director to translate the strategic direction of MOSES into systems that measure the organization’s key indicators. The Operations Director will work with the Executive Director to plan and coordinate the annual MOSES Organic Farming Conference. The Operations Director is a self-directed and self-motivated professional. This position reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
*
Operational Effectiveness: Works with the Executive Director to develop key organizational performance indicators and measurement/monitoring systems and tools. Utilizes results to affirm and encourage high-performing teams as well as to address challenges. Designs systems that support and improve organizational effectiveness and productivity. Oversees and coordinates internal operations, program planning and delivery, and ensures compliance with and timely completion of administrative functions. Develops clear, functional policies as needed.
*Collaborative Environment: Creates a positive work environment and fosters team culture, ensuring that an effective staff team, is in place with appropriate provision for succession. Motivates, coaches, trains and develops staff, and facilitates inter-staff communication. Hires, supervises and manages performance of staff.
*Administration: Serves as a resource for and assistant to the Executive Director. Conducts research, compiles data, and prepares information for presentations and written communications.
*Human Resources: Responsible for HR policy review, compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, and oversight of personnel files. Serves as liaison with employee benefit administrators. Serves as a resource to MOSES staff by handling questions, interpreting and administering policy, and helping resolve work-related problems.
*Finance: Works with the Executive Director and Finance Manager to plan budgets and see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
*Organic Farming Conference: Assists with the planning, organization, and implementation of the annual MOSES Conference. Manages facility and vendor contracts, coordinates special reservations and meetings, and provides oversight of conference staff committees.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Knowledge of organic farming and the organic industry.
3. Passion for healthy food and sustainability.
4. 3-5 years experience in a management-level position with direct supervision of staff and business operations.
5. 3-5 years experience in designing, developing and implementing organizational systems that measure key performance indicators.
6. 3-5 years experience managing a non-profit organization, preferred.
7. 3-5 years experience in an agriculture or related field, preferred.
8. Top-notch communication, interpersonal, leadership and organization skills.
9. Strong computer and technology skills and ability to learn new computer programs.
10. Ability to plan, strategize, budget, and evaluate systems.
11. Valid driver’s license.
Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position located in Spring Valley, Wis. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes vacation, sick, holiday, and paid community service time.
