Job description

Company.

Run by Louisa Conrad and Lucas Farrell, Big Picture Farm of Townshend, VT is a small goat dairy and farmstead confectionary committed to making the finest goat milk caramels in the world. Our 28 saanens, alpines and nubian goats live happy and healthy lives rotating through the rich pastures and leafy woodlands that characterize our hillside Vermont farm. All of this translates into the exceptionally floral and creamy milk used as the principal ingredient and primary flavoring agent in all our award-winning farmstead goat milk caramels. In the past year our caramels have made it onto the shelves of nearly 200 stores, including Whole Foods, Anthropologie, Le Pain Quotidien, Murray's Cheese, Formaggio Kitchen, Central Market, and Bi-Rite Market among others.  In addition, our sea salt and vanilla caramels were awarded the Gold SOFI for Outstanding Confection at the 2012 Fancy Food Show; and our Chai caramels recently won a Good Food Award. We have won praise from Martha Stewart Living, the NYTimes, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Food & Wine and VPR among others. Position Description - Confectioner

We are seeking a hard-working, meticulous and good humored confectioner to make our goat milk caramels. We are immediately looking for someone to start with 2-3 days of production a week, and transition to full time come the end of August. The process of boiling our milk into caramel is a very precise undertaking, so an obsessive attention to detail is key as the recipe fluctuates with the season and temperature. While prior work in a kitchen is not necessary, it is helpful. There will be much scrubbing and cleaning. Mostly we are looking for someone with the verve, meticulousness, bright-spiritedness, and energy to help us create the most delicious caramels with the milk from our very own herd of goats.

Qualifications.

We are looking for someone who is extremely hard-working, able to withstand repetition while maintaining a great attitude, and is honest and fun to work with day in and day out. You do not necessarily need prior kitchen or food experience. However, a passion for high quality farm food is a must.  We ask that, given the rural nature of our town, you have a reliable means of transportation. Housing is not provided.

Compensation.
Initially part time, hourly, beginning June. Potential for an annual salary and paid vacation if it is a right fit for both parties, beginning in late August/September.
