Job description

Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization with members in 150 countries and 1,300 volunteer-led chapters around the world. We were founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and the disappearance of local food cultures. Today, we coordinate local, national, and global programs and campaigns to pursue our vision of a world where everyone can enjoy food that’s good for us, good for farmers and workers, and good for the planet.

The U.S. branch, Slow Food USA, is a national nonprofit with a small staff based in Brooklyn, NY and over 200 volunteer-led chapters nation-wide. We’ve seen a lot of growth in the last four years: our network has grown from 20,000 to 200,000 people, and our issues and viewpoints have entered the mainstream. In the next year and beyond, we’re focusing on helping people from all communities reclaim, create, and celebrate local food cultures in order to build alternatives to the industrial food system and address inequities in food and farming.

Slow Food USA is seeking a Network Engagement Coordinator to help our chapter leaders advance their local work. The Network Engagement Coordinator will support Slow Food USA’s current members and chapters, help build new chapters, and lead the creation of new tools and resources to expand our support system.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support to Slow Food USA’s volunteer chapter leaders, including guidance on chapter management, membership, record keeping, and tax filing
  • Coordinate regular emails and conference calls for chapter leaders to help build their leadership, highlight new resources, and strengthen the leader community
  • Reply to chapter leader inquiries by phone and email, and coordinate day-to-day communications to leaders. Manage the message board and website for chapter leaders
  • Reply to membership inquiries by phone and email, and coordinate database updates and queries
  • Help chapter leaders manage their membership and email lists; update local recruitment analysis and revenue share
  • Coordinate the process for starting new local and campus chapters
  • Actively contribute to organization-wide projects as needed
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant work or internship experience; at least 1-2 years professional work experience preferred
  • Experience using databases; knowledge of Excel and customer relationship management software preferred
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to the Slow Food mission and specific interest in network development
  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills, including demonstrated ability to develop productive relationships with stakeholders and colleagues across a diverse array of backgrounds and geographies
  • Polished, professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills, including a communication style that diffuses conflict and promotes cooperation
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience as a Slow Food volunteer
  • Experience working with social movements in U.S. and/or internationally
  • Experience working with people from a range of communities, ages, ethnicities, and class backgrounds
