Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) is a non-profit, member supported organization dedicated to the genetic preservation of heirloom and open-pollinated food crops. Seed Savers Exchange is currently hiring Seasonal Horticulture Assistant to Support the needs of horticulture staff on collection maintenance and regeneration projects in the greenhouse, laboratory and field. 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Greenhouse sowing, watering, fertilizing
• Carrying out greenhouse IPM
• Hoop house planting and maintenance
• Conducting controlled pollinations (insect and hand-pollinations)
• Field transplanting, weeding (manual and mechanical), and harvesting-Wet and dry seed processing
• Inventorying and cataloging seed
• Data collection and record keeping
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.  

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field or equivalent years demonstrated practical work experience in horticulture.
• Hands-on experience with plants; experience with vegetable crops is preferred
• Ability to perform field work in wide ranging weather conditions
• Ability to perform physical activity: lifting (up to 100 lbs. assisted); carrying (50 lbs.), bending frequently, climbing, pushing,  pulling, and ladder climbing
• Applicants must have a valid driver’s license

Wage - $10.50 per hour
