The Sustainability & Education Coordinator position is responsible for the marketing and communication of our sustainability program

Essential Job Functions

EDUCATION, OUTREACH & AWARENESS

FOOD SYSTEM EDUCATION
• Implement the Health Planet, Healthy Me! program for all retail and resident dining operations, working with student sustainability coordinators and volunteers to host activities in five dining locations across campus. 
• Manage and promote the Meatless Monday campaign for all UC Davis Dining Services locations.
 • Advise the Resident Garden student sustainability coordinator(s) in development of educational and garden-based activities. 
• Advise the EcoFood Corps focus group. 
• Host sustainability-related tours in the dining locations. 
• Work with UC Davis Student Housings' Office of Student Development to collaborate on educational programs for the residents including floor programs, Recyclemania and more. 

STUDENT SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATORS AND INTERNSHIP POSITIONS 
• Manage outreach and recruitment for Student Sustainability Coordinators and Internship program.
• Facilitate weekly meetings with education coordinators and interns.
• Evaluate all coordinators and interns quarterly.
• Utilize Sustainability Interns to produce Healthy Planet, Healthy Me materials and run EcoFood Corps focus group and Meatless Monday promotions.

COMMUNICATION
• Work with the marketing department to maintain accurate and timely information about the UC Davis Dining Services sustainability program in all media, including website, Facebook page, Aggie Reader, etc.
• Respond to regular outside requests for information about the Meatless Monday and educational programs within UC Davis Dining Services. 
• Develop and ensure local/sustainable grower signage posted in all dining locations; audit units for compliance in posting.

EVENTS
• Develop and manage the education components (vendors, organizations, activities) at the bi-annual Farm-to-College events.
• Work with student groups and others to develop an annual event on Food Day.
• Work with student sustainability coordinators and culinary team to host a Green Chef event each quarter in the resident dining commons. 

STAFF TRAINING
• Contribute to the weekly Sustainability & Nutrition office updates to all UC Davis Dining Services employees.
 • Maintain the employee sustainability bulletin boards in all locations. 
• Train all incoming student sustainability coordinators and sustainability volunteers on Dining Services sustainability program. 

COLLABORATION & PARTNERSHIP 

STUDENT GROUPS
• Work proactively with campus student organizations, academic departments and programs at UC Davis to promote sustainability in campus dining locations.
• Communicate with student organizations UC Davis Dining Services sustainability goals and program. 

OPERATIONS

FOOD WASTE REDUCTION
• Organize a bi-annual Love Food, Hate Waste audits in the resident dining commons. Track and communicate results with culinary team and students. 
• Maintain and reinforce the Try-a-Taste program, Napkin Reduction campaign and Just Ask campaigns for the resident dining commons. 

GARDENS
• Advise student sustainability coordinators in maintaining and promoting the Resident Garden at Segundo.
• Assist student sustainability coordinators in maintaining all necessary safety training documentation, budget and inventory of supplies for Resident Garden. 
• Maintain the UC Davis Campus Gardens listserv.

SAFETY
• Represent Sustainability & Nutrition Department at quarterly Safety Committee meetings. 
• Conduct monthly safety audits and distribute monthly safety talks for the UC Davis Dining Services Sustainability & Nutrition Department, Central Accounting and Human Resources. 
• Communicate safety training and program to all Sustainability & Nutrition Department employees and interns. 
• Monitor interns for complying with safety standards (hair nets, safety shoes, hazardous materials, etc.)

REPORTING & TRACKING
• Assist Sustainability Manager in tracking sustainable food purchases.
• Assist Sustainability Manager in tracking waste diversion metrics (ie. solid waste, grease, etc.). 
• Assist Sustainability Manager in developing annual report on sustainable foodservice practices for UC Davis Dining Services. 

GENERAL & ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Facilitate weekly meetings for the Sustainability Interns.
• Attend weekly Sustainability and Nutrition Office Meetings.
• Attend bi-weekly meetings with Student Housing Sustainability Workgroup and Interns.
• Attend weekly menu committee meetings with Dining staff.
• Participate in UC Davis Food System Working Group and UC Sustainable Foodservice Working Group.
• Attend all training sessions as requested.
• Complete all tasks as assigned by manager, in a timely manner.
• Assist Dietitian in development of materials for Nutrition Talk program.
• Support campus events and committees related to Food System Sustainability, upon approval of manager. 
• Participate in campus/community working groups, upon approval of manager. 
• Participate in regional conferences related to food and sustainability, upon approval of manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems, Business or related fields required. 
• Two to five years of foodservice experience recommended.
• Excellent technical skills in word processing, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Google products (docs, calendar, mail, etc.), Internet. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite strongly recommended. 
• Excellent leadership skills that promote a positive work environment and teamwork with a diverse group of individuals.
• Excellent communication skills including listening, public speaking and written communication. Bi-lingual helpful but not required. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.
• Must be able to work independently and show creativity and initiative of projects with minimum supervision. 
• Must be extremely organized and have the ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines consistently. 
• Knowledge of food systems and sustainability. 
• Valid CA driver's license required.

Compensation: $14.42-$18.00 DOE
