Job description
Role Summary:
The Distribution Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of food rescue distribution for retail, wholesale, and farm partnerships to ensure that surplus food reaches those in need across our community. This critical role focuses on managing and expanding our network of recipient organizations, including food banks, community groups, and other hunger-relief partners. You will work closely with these partners to maximize the accessibility, efficiency, and impact of food distribution while maintaining strong, sustainable relationships. As the Distribution Manager, you will lead all logistics and freight management, set strategies, monitor overall distribution performance, lead process improvement, and ensure that our distribution team effectively meets the needs of our internal teams and the communities we serve. Successful candidates will be skilled in problem-solving and relationship-building.
Key Responsibilities:
- Relationship Management: Establish, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with receiving organizations to ensure a continuous flow of donated food.
- Partnership Expansion: Identify new opportunities for partnerships with food vendors, retailers, and other sources to grow the network of food donors.
- Relationship Maintenance: Ensure that receiving partners are continuously vetted and following appropriate food distribution protocol.
- Food PlacementStrategy: Work with the Head of Operations to develop and execute strategies for placing and distributing food from various partners, ensuring that donations align with the needs of the communities we serve.
- Collaboration with Operations: Work closely with the operations team to ensure efficient and timely distribution of food from partners to community organizations.
- Data & Reporting: Track and report on food sourcing and distribution efforts, ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) related to donations, food volume, vendor engagement, and partner satisfaction are met.
- Relationship Stewardship: Regularly engage with key partners to ensure satisfaction and long-term collaboration. Provide updates, insights, and feedback to partners on the impact of their donations and those receiving them.
- Logistical Coordination: Oversee logistical aspects of food distribution, including coordinating pickup schedules, delivery windows, and ensuring food quality standards are maintained.
- Sustainability Focus: Work to develop sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with receiving agencies, including negotiating agreements and ensuring that all parties are aligned on expectations.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience in food sourcing, supply chain management, or relationship management, ideally within the nonprofit or food distribution sector.
- Vendor Relations Expertise: Strong experience in managing partnerships with food vendors, wholesalers, and retailers.
- Logistical Coordination: Experience managing food distribution logistics, including scheduling pickups and ensuring the timely delivery of donations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills to foster strong relationships with donors and partners.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple partnerships and projects simultaneously.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to think creatively and solve problems as they arise, especially in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Passion for the Mission: Deep commitment to Sharing Excess's mission of reducing food waste and alleviating hunger through innovative partnerships.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with CRM or inventory management systems is a plus.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments, ensuring that food distribution goals are met and that partners' needs are addressed.
