Company description
Hidden Acre Farm is a 4-acre certified organic and Real Organic diverse vegetable and flower farm. This is our 7th growing season and we sell at 3 weekend farmers markets. Hidden Acre Farm is a family business owned and operated by Jack and Melissa, and we strive to create an enjoyable working environment where our team members can grow personally and professionally while helping Hidden Acre Farm meet our fiscal, environmental, and social goals for the year. Please be under no illusions; farming is exceptionally hard work, though it has the potential to be incredibly rewarding.
Job description
We have an incredible team here at Hidden Acre Farm and we are looking for another crewmember to join a wonderful team of energetic, reliable, and fun farmers. We are looking for a crew member to join us on the farm for 1-2 days per week (including Fridays) and to manage our Bronxville Farmers Market (Saturday).
If you have had success working on a farm before and have an aptitude for building rapport with customers, presenting produce attractively and driving sales, we would love to hear from you.
The farm crew role will involve all aspects of farm work on 5 acres, including seeding, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting. The market crew role starts at 5.30am at the farm, helping to load the van, driving an hour to the market, setting up the market stand with excellent presentation of produce, educating customers about our growing practices, vegetable varieties and flowers, and growing relationships with customers. The market is 8.30am-1pm. Availability for most Saturdays during the Mother's Day to Thanksgiving market season is required, though we can arrange for occasional cover.
Though farming experience is preferred, you will receive a ton of on-the-job education of every aspect of running a small-scale Certified Organic and Real Organic vegetable and flower farm that sells direct to customers. You will see the full picture of agricultural production from seed to plate whilst gaining exposure to the tight-knit farming community in Orange County NY.
A commitment to Thanksgiving is required with the option of reduced winter hours (including help at our Sunday Greenmarket in Brooklyn).
