Company description
Green Food Solutions Empowers a New Local Food System™ by selling, installing, and maintaining urban farms using vertical hydroponic technology. We plan and design urban and commercial farms, and provide Hydroponic Agricultural Operations and System Maintenance Training to empower the next generation of farmers. We engage our local community with operating Farm Amenities®, farm tours & workshops in residential buildings, commercial buildings, and co-working spaces with our Farm Amenity® products and services. We are a Farming as a Service (FaaS™) company.
We are a small team who are passionate about building access, resilience and sustainability in our food system one farm at a time. At Green Food Solutions, we stand for LGBTQIA+ rights. We work to build an equitable, inclusive, anti-racist company from the inside out. We value, respect, and support all types of diversity across all identities including, but not limited to, ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexuality, religion, and abilities.
Job description
We are looking to fill the part-time position of the Grower role at 4 of our small distributed Farm Amenity® locations specifically in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and New Jersey. These locations are farms in community centers serving food pantries, correctional facilities, and residential buildings.
We are looking for someone who aligns with our mission and our values. You believe we need a better food system that puts sustainability and access first. You are friendly, have no problem talking to the person behind you in the grocery line, and are a good relationship builder. You are a grower with at least one year of experience in agricultural operations who is looking to make a difference at a small company that is scaling quickly.
You’re loyal -- you can be trusted to work on your own, but you also love being part of a team. You are great at anticipating the needs of the plants and your teammates.
You are someone who can’t leave the farm without ensuring everything is working correctly, and all equipment and supplies are properly put away. You are an advocate for organization and cleanliness, and take pride in your work. You are a strong team player, and follow routines so that the farm is set up for the next visit and our crop schedules run smoothly.
You love to solve problems and want to make people happy -- you’re always willing to learn something new and enjoy collaborating with the rest of the team and clients. You are someone who believes urban microfarms can be a major part of feeding cities with zero carbon emissions due to the transportation of food, and want to be part of a team to empower a new local food system™.
