Our Temenos is an ecological landscaping firm offering design, execution and maintenance services across New York City and in the surrounding environs. We work in the public and private context with specialization in native, edible and educational gardens that build climate resilience while offering clients a space for rest and respite.
Job description
As a small business with limited resources, each person hired is strategic. We believe that fit is as important as function. Our clients are every day New Yorkers, architects, public institutions and each project requires extremely efficient use of time and resources. Each role at Our Temenos has a 30-probationary period upon hiring. Each probationary period concludes with a performance review.
Role Overview:
As the Site Lead you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our landscaping operations. You will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day activities for crew members, managing designated resources, and implementing efficient processes to meet client expectations and company objectives. As the Site Lead you work physically on site alongside the crew and collaborate with the Director of Staff, Project Coordinator and Founding Principal to ensure a democratic, efficient and inclusive company culture is reflected in our day to day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Management:
- Oversee multiple sites, ensuring projects are executed on time, within budget, and in adherence to quality standards. Set the pace for the team and work on site to ensure that deadlines are met.
- Collaborate with the designer and lead field team to plan and execute landscaping projects efficiently. Must be skilled in rough carpentry, landscape construction, irrigation installation and maintenance.
Resource Allocation:
- Manage and allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor and control project expenses to ensure financial objectives are met.
Quality Control:
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure landscaping projects meet or exceed client expectations.
- Conduct regular site inspections to assess work quality and identify areas for improvement and create maintenance plans for annual clients.
Team Leadership:
- Act as the primary point of contact for installation and maintenance crew during project execution, providing updates to Founding Principal, and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Participate in, and eventually, conduct regular team meetings to communicate project updates, goals, and performance expectations.
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and execution to the highest standard.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to enhance operational efficiency.
- Work closely with the management team to develop and implement best practices for landscaping operations.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations in landscaping operations.
- Implement safety protocols and conduct regular training sessions to promote a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in operations, with a focus on task, time and team management.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and team members.
- Knowledge of sustainable landscaping practices and environmental considerations.
- Proficient in project management tools and software.
- OSHA Certification.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Environmental Science, Hospitality or a related field. Any significant demonstrable hands on experience will be considered because education should not be a barrier to middle class opportunities.
- ISA certification is a plus.
- Proven experience in or exemplified readiness for a leadership role.
- Certification in project management is a plus.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, 50k-75k
