Company description
At Sun Feast Farm we grow diversified vegetables, raise laying hens, build soil and dapple in dried flowers, culinary and medicinal herbs and ferments. While not certified organic we follow organic practices. We believe in and try to practice endless learning here, always wanting to better know the lands we farm and the ways vegetables are asking to be nurtured. We make space for learning from each other and will also try to share the big picture of why we make the choices we make. Join us if long days in the sun keep you smiling as we share in the bounty from the Sun.
Job description
May-October
Sunday Market 9am-3:30pm
Friday Harvest 8am-4pm (possibility for more weekday hours during peak season)
13 hours/week
$17-20 hour depending on experience
Perks include weekly veggies and plant starts
Farmers market requires someone who can work in a sometimes stressful environment and keep a smile. Market is a fast paced environment between helping customers and keeping the booth stocked. It's important to keep tabs on a few things at once while answering questions and fulfilling other general customer service needs. Customer service experience is a plus but not necessary. General excitement about vegetables and cooking is expected. We are looking for a kind friendly patient person to join us in representing the farm. You must have basic math skills, be able to lift 40# crate, stand for 6 hours on pavement in all kinds of weather and keep a smile. The location of this market is in the Woodstock Neighborhood of Portland. You will need your own transportation to and from the Market.
Harvest on Fridays will be an opportunity for you to get a feel for the farm and learn about what we grow and how we grow it so you can share at the Market on Sunday the fuller picture of our farm. Attention to detail, strong work ethic, positive attitude and ability to lift 50# repeatedly and bend and kneel for long stretches are a must in our farming practices, where human power fuels a great deal of our work. Being observant and curious are a huge plus! This person has to be a team player and be excited to work hard through all kinds of weather and tasks. We hope for people who enjoy a good conversation and company but are also happy to work independently listening to the birds and soaking in the sunshine and soil. Ideally you will be someone with small-scale agriculture farming experience, excellent attention to detail, and familiarity with produce quality standards.
During May and June you may be asked to help get plant starts ready for Farmers Market as well.
