Company description
At Sun Feast Farm we grow diversified vegetables, raise laying hens, build soil and dapple in dried flowers, culinary and medicinal herbs and ferments. While not certified organic we follow organic practices. We believe in and try to practice endless learning here, always wanting to better know the lands we farm and the ways vegetables are asking to be nurtured. We make space for learning from each other and will also try to share the big picture of why we make the choices we make. Join us if long days in the sun keep you smiling as we share in the bounty from the Sun.
Job description
Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri 8am-4pm
30 hours/week
$17-$20/hour depending on experience
Includes fresh produce to take home and plant starts for a garden of your own.
This position is involved in all farm tasks. These include transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, wash/pack, and any other tasks that may arise. Attention to detail, strong work ethic, positive attitude and ability to lift 50# repeatedly and bend and kneel for long stretches are a must in our farming practices, where human power fuels a great deal of our work. Being observant and curious are a huge plus! This person has to be a team player and be excited to work hard through all kinds of weather and tasks, side by side to bring life and bounty to our field and communities tables. We hope for people who enjoy a good conversation and company but are also happy to work independently listening to the birds and soaking in the sunshine and soil. Ideally you will be someone with small-scale agriculture farming experience, excellent attention to detail, and familiarity with produce quality standards.
In addition to field work, this person will participate in greenhouse tasks. They need to be someone who loves spending time with seeds, has strong attention to detail, and enjoys being organized and keeping clear records. They need to work well, or even enjoy working independently but also have strong communication skills. Part of this job will also be filling orders making sure each flat has quality plants and loading them into the van for delivery. You will rarely if ever be asked to drive our vehicle or deliver. There will be times of year when everyone is in the greenhouse up-potting tomatoes and peppers and other times when you will be handed a list in the morning of what needs to be seeded and a box of seeds . We will train you in what to look for as first signs of possible pests and disease and we will need your extra set of eyes to stay on top of things should they appear. If you have experience working with baby plants and/or in a production nursery that is a plus but not essential to being accepted. This job is very important to us as the beginning of all life here on the farm.
