Lost & Found Farm produces seedlings, cut flowers, low bush blueberries, blueberry products, dried flowers, and wreaths. The flower production side of our business is located in Dresden, Maine on one acre and our blueberry operation takes place in Dresden and Gray, Maine, totaling 40 acres. Each week, May- November, we attend three busy farmers markets. Our flowers and blueberries are MOFGA Certified Organic. Our operation is small, yet mighty! We seek active learners who want to work hard and produce beautiful flowers and delicious fruit during our short growing season.
Job description
Lost & Found Farm is hiring dynamic team members to join our busy flower season! We grow hundreds of varieties of flowers for farmers markets and wholesale accounts. Individuals often work independently or at times with others. We are looking for someone who is willing to work through challenging weather conditions and still keep a positive attitude. Prior flower farming experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Regardless of experience, the position requires someone willing to learn our systems and how we grow and handle crops. We truly care about the quality of our products and the wellbeing of our employees. We try to do things ergonomically so ensure the longevity of our bodies in a line of work that isn’t always easy. This is a part time, field position and does not guarantee any floral design work. Candidates interested in working more than one season are encouraged to apply and can expect to be given greater responsibilities in time. There is the opportunity to combine this position with the farmers market position or blueberry position for additional hours.
- Greenhouse activities including: flat filling, seeding, watering, organizing
- Bed preparation: including but not limited to shoveling compost to prepare no-till beds, laying landscape fabric, spreading organic fertilizer, raking
- Transplanting flowers into field
- Trellising, post pounding and stringing
- Irrigation: working with drip tape and overhead irrigation systems
- Weeding: using stand up and hand tools and hand weeding
- Harvest! Learn all of the details of the perfect harvest stage of select flowers for continuous harvest throughout season
- Fall clean up
- Potential for involvement in blueberry field projects and/or harvest
- Other farm projects: bucket washing, organizing, etc.
- participation in blueberry season for four weeks
- Enjoys physical labor
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly or comfortable asking for help/ finding a creative solution
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks (planting, clipping flowers, weeding, etc.) and body movements (squatting, lifting, kneeling, standing, bending, etc.) for the whole shift
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Receptive to education and feedback
- Desire to learn
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (rain, heat, humidity, cold, snow(!?), and beautiful weather)
- Willingness to use power tools once trained (weed-wacker and mower)
- Valid driver's license (necessary to drive flowers to and from field location to flower cooler)
- April - November (potential for December work)
- Mondays and Thursdays 7:30am - 12:30 pm (possible schedule shift to an earlier start time and end time during the height of the season)
