Job description
Kakawa Chocolate House is seeking an experienced baker or pastry assistant for full time or potentially part-time capacity. Kakawa Chocolate House is an artisanal chocolatier, so this position offers a unique opportunity to showcase your baking skills with sweet baked treats like our brownies and cookies with the chance to learn and make our ice cream and chocolates for our small and dynamic shop.
Prior kitchen experience is required, baking experience preferred. Candidate should have strong organizational skills, flexibility and be able to foster and perpetuate a teamwork environment. Should have ability to problem solve, self-manage and be comfortable assisting others on chocolate projects as needed based on seasonal shifts or staff changes.
About the role and day-to-day
You are responsible for daily prep & production- to organize and execute a daily and weekly bake schedule in collaboration with general manager and head chocolatier. To ensure smooth & consistent production within shifting seasonal retail needs while maintaining high quality standards.
Inventory Management- Manage ingredient inventory, working with existing vendor partners, sourcing potential new suppliers to ensure we maintain a focus on high quality, organic where possible, local and sustainable ingredients. Should have an understanding of COGS to manage profitability with management team & owners.
Staff Management- Responsibility to Lead/train temporary or seasonal staff during high volume times like October and holiday season.
Food Safety- Must maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace, complying with all health and safety protocols and actively working to improve efficiency and safety.
Availability during the entire month of October and the holiday season is required.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $23.00
