Company description
Situated on land owned by the Hamill family for more than a century, Cherry Grove Farm was started in 2002 as a direct outgrowth of the Hamills’ passion for the land, their community, and the idea of responsible, sustainable food production.
Cherry Grove Farm uses the farmstead cheesemaking model, meaning that we do everything on site, from raising and milking the cows to making and aging our cheese. By keeping the process in-house, we ensure we use the best quality milk from humanely treated cattle who graze through the farm’s 200 plus acres of verdant pasture.
Within a decade of its founding, Cherry Grove established itself as one of the region’s premier cheesemakers, garnering numerous national awards that reflect the care taken in every step of the cheesemaking process.
We are committed to regenerative agriculture, rotating where our animals graze so that both they and the land remain as healthy as possible. The result is cheese, meat, and eggs that are sustainably produced and delicious.
We care deeply for the well-being of our land, our animals, and the community we serve — care you can taste in each bite.
Job description
Cherry Grove Farm is looking for an outgoing and sales minded individual to work our outdoor markets. This role can look a couple different ways depending on your interests, and can include working in our indoor farm store, doing some cheese mongering and packaging, and possibly helping in the cheesemaking facility. The market we are specifically hiring for is Sunday Mornings in Philly, so at least that is required. The rest of the schedule is pretty flexible. With this position we're confident you'll become a farmstead cheese and meat expert!
This is a part-time position, with the potential for up to 30 hours depending on your availability and our needs on the farm. We are looking for people who are organized, have the ability to work independently and are adaptable. Responsibilities include market set-up/breakdown, cash handling and knowledge of our products. This is a great opportunity to work first-hand within our local food system with our quality farmstead products - cheese, pasture raised meats, eggs (sometimes) and honey. Within the job responsibilities you would have the opportunity to learn about dairy farming and enjoy a 30% discount.
If you have experience with cheese, butchering or culinary sales positions that's a plus but definitely not necessary. We will train, and training involves lots of eating cheese! We have a lot of fun during tasting sessions and it’s a great opportunity to strengthen your palate.
Outdoor market shifts include commission, which can add an extra $25-$100 to your wage depending on sales. Markets are a great opportunity to get to meet other farmers too, and if you’re lucky you sometimes come home with free produce, bread, and other products.
