Job description
We are seeking a Vegetable Packhouse and Farmers’ Market Lead to manage our post-harvest operations, coordinate CSA and restaurant distributions, and represent the farm at one farmers’ market per weekend. This role requires a highly organized individual with a passion for sustainable agriculture, quality produce, and customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Packhouse Management:
• Oversee the post-harvest washing, sorting, and packing of vegetables for CSA shares, farmers’ markets, and restaurant accounts.
• Ensure all produce meets high-quality standards and food safety regulations.
• Organize workflow in the packhouse to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
• Maintain inventory of packaging materials and an organized workspace.
Farmers’ Market Management:
• Manage one farmers’ market per weekend, overseeing setup, sales, and breakdown.
• Transport produce and market materials to and from the market.
• Maintain an attractive, organized, and well-stocked market booth.
• Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service and answer questions about farm practices and produce.
• Track inventory and sales data, reporting back to the farm team.
Food Safety & Compliance:
• Work with the Farm Manager to ensure compliance with food safety protocols, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
• Maintain records related to post-harvest handling, food safety, CSA distribution, and market sales.
Team Collaboration & Leadership is important! You will:
• Train and supervise farm crew members and volunteers in post-harvest handling, packing, and market operations.
• Work closely with the harvest team to align harvest schedules with packing and market needs.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Prior experience in farm production, packhouse operations, CSA management, or farmers’ markets is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work efficiently in a fast-paced, physical environment.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Comfort with handling sales transactions and basic record-keeping.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a market vehicle (if required).
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and post-harvest handling best practices.
