Position Title: Greenhouse & Farm Produce Manager
Our Farm & Vision
At Bluebird House Farm, we value permaculture and diversity. We are ecologically friendly, non-certified organic and are working to open a farm market grocery in Estill County, KY so others in our community can enjoy the bounty of local, delicious and highly nutritious food without worry of chemicals, fungicides, pesticides, you name it! While still in our startup phase, we have an established production plan, seeds ordered and started in our grow room and many fresh greens and veggies available for employees, friends, and family to enjoy. The overwintered carrots and beets are particularly sweet from our greenhouse and we are eager to share recipes. Our farm currently grows a variety of vegetables and fruits as well as small livestock for meat production including goats, rabbits, chickens, quail and duck. We hold a place in our heart for Wendell Berry's teachings and the rich cultural heritage of Appalachia, with teams of draft mules and percheron work horses doing a lot of work around the farm. This operation has 5 full time employees now and hosts summer internships for agriculture/horticulture students. We are seeking an organized individual with 5+ years experience growing vegetables for any scale commercial production. Experience with farm markets, CSAs, food hubs, agricultural aggregation sites or groceries is ideal. A minimum of 2 years in a farm management position is desired as well.
Housing & Benefits
We have a few options available for housing depending on employee needs. We have a private 3 bedroom house located on one of our production sites, available for families relocating. We also have individual rooms available in a shared house for individuals (this will be for interns as well). Regardless of location choice, a reliable vehicle is necessary to work at multiple locations we have currently under production. For more information, please ask.
We are happy to provide a salary of $41,600 per year or an hourly rate of $25/hr, depending on your needs.
We offer PTO, Health coverage with dental and vision available for employee and family.
