Company description
Full Hollow Farm is a small certified organic vegetable farm located in Belding, MI. We use earth-friendly, sustainable growing practices, encourage biodiversity, and focus on the health of the soil. We offer CSA memberships and attend the Rockford Farmers Market and Fulton St. Farmers Market in Grand Rapids. Together, Jamie and Brad have worked on seven different vegetable and fruit farms. During these years they continued to learn and love growing produce and providing food to the community.
Job description
We are looking for one full-time Farm Crew Member + Saturday Farmers Market employee for our 2025 farming season. The position is seasonal and runs March 31st through November 25th. The first week you will work Monday through Friday and not at the farmers market so that you can participate in the first day training with everyone else.
Farm Crew members will participate in most activities on the farm, including bed prep, planting, hoeing, weeding, trellising, irrigating, lots of harvesting, cleaning harvest containers, and washing produce (to name a few). We are looking for people who like to work hard, learn from mistakes, enjoy working outside in all kinds of weather, can lift 40 pounds often, can think creatively, are able to listen well, have a good attitude when work is repetitive, and can work great in a team and by themselves. We are a small crew and really value teamwork, enjoying our work, and growing high quality and delicious veggies for our customers.
We like to give employees an area of focus, which is determined by interest and skill of the employee. These focus areas give employees a space they manage and take responsibility in. This helps delegate tasks on the farm and sometimes spurs new ideas or ways to approach these areas of focus to make them more efficient and enjoyable. Some focus areas available are: irrigation/fertigation, paper pot transplanting, wash station.
This position is Tuesday through Friday on the farm and every Saturday morning running our stand at Fulton St. Farmers Market in Grand Rapids. Working farmers market requires a positive attitude, good customer service, ability to do mental math and make change quickly and accurately (something that can be learned if you’re uncomfortable with this right now!), and the ability to multi-task. The work day on Saturday starts with loading and driving the delivery van from the farm to the market and ends with dropping it back off and unloading in the afternoon. We have two of these positions on the farm which means the responsibility for driving the van can be split every other week between market people. Typically we start at 8 am, take a 45 min lunch around noon (30 min is paid), and then finish up and are done for the day at 4:15 pm. For the months of June through September we will be starting at 7 am and ending the day at 3:15 pm because of the amount of daylight and warmer temperatures. Market days vary a little bit on start times depending on if you are driving the van or meeting at the farmers market.
Previous experience on vegetable farms and at farmers market is a plus but not required.
We work 40 hours a week however during the busiest times of year we might ask the crew to work a little longer to finish a Friday harvest but it is not required. We pay overtime if you work over 40 hours a week but we like to keep that to a minimum because we feel like a good work-life balance is important. One of our favorite things about farming is eating what we grow! As an employee, you will be able to take home a lot of produce to eat.
Pay starts at $15/hour. There is a possibility of an end of season bonus for employees who complete the season with us. There is a beginning workwear stipend of up to $150 given to help offset the cost of work boots, rain coat, or whatever else you might need. Rain bibs are provided by the farm. Employees submit receipts for workwear and are reimbursed up to $150. Every full time employee will get a 1 week (5 days) paid vacation during the season which must be scheduled ahead of time to avoid overlapping with other employees.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
