Job description
Role Overview
The Property Systems Lead is responsible for maintaining and improving Acania’s infrastructure, managing small-scale building projects, and coordinating external contractors for larger initiatives. This hands-on role requires technical expertise in repairs and construction, strong organizational skills, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
The ideal candidate is resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate effectively with both the farm team and leadership to support the long-term success of a regenerative agricultural hub.
Roles and Responsibilities
Infrastructure Maintenance and Repairs
- Maintain property systems, including buildings, fencing, irrigation, utilities, and security systems.
- Perform hands-on repairs and upgrades in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general construction.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and proactively address maintenance needs.
Project Management and Construction
- Design and execute small-scale construction projects, such as fencing, shed repairs, or garden infrastructure enhancements, with a focus on sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
- Source materials and ensure high-quality, efficient project execution.
Contractor Coordination and Oversight
- Act as the primary liaison for hiring and managing contractors for larger repair or construction projects.
- Clearly communicate project objectives, timelines, and budgets, ensuring alignment with property goals.
- Leverage a network of local vendors and contractors to achieve reliable and cost-effective results.
Systems Optimization and Collaboration
- Collaborate with the farm team to align property systems with overall operational and regenerative goals, focusing on infrastructure improvements that support efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability.
- Collaborate with leadership to document projects, budgets, and outcomes for transparency and long-term planning.
Safety and Equipment
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in safe, working condition.
- Ensure all repairs and projects comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
Background Requirements
Experience and Skills
- Proven experience in property maintenance, general contracting, or a related field.
- Hands-on proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, irrigation, and general repairs.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and contractors.
Technical and Physical Requirements
- Basic proficiency in Google Drive, email, and Google Sheets for documentation and communication.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work comfortably at heights or on ladders.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)
- Established network of reliable contractors and vendors in the Portland, Oregon area.
- English/Spanish bilingual skills for effective communication with crew members.
- Willingness to learn regenerative practices and integrate them into property systems.
