Located in the historic Morningside community, the market is open every Saturday year-round from 8:00–11:30 am.
Job description
Role Overview:
We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Manager who will be responsible for all back-end operations of the Market on a day-to-day basis and will manage all day-of market responsibilities. The Manager should possess a blend of skills that are interpersonal and organizational, as well as bring the ability to work independently. They are nimble and can address issues as they arise. The Manager is passionate about organically grown produce, regenerative agriculture and locally made products and wants to share their passion with the community!
Key Duties:
1. On-Site Market Management
- Provide management every Saturday at the Market’s location from 6:00 am – 1:00 pm. Exceptions will be made in the event of sudden, severe illness, as well as up to two additional Market days with two weeks’ advance notice.
- Set up the Market: put up/break down the information booth tent, tables, merchandise and full display; place all parking cones and signs; create a weekly map for vendor booth locations; direct vendors to their spots; assist vendors with unloading or other set up/break down tasks per need; set out picnic tables for customer seating; general conflict resolution; and customer service interaction with shoppers.
- Identify, and resolve as soon as possible, any issues affecting the safety of customers and vendors.
- Identify and resolve any issues related to unauthorized solicitors or unapproved products.
- Collect the booth fees from all the vendors.
- Collect daily sales data and other feedback from all the vendors.
- Maintain a welcoming presence at the Market’s information booth to distribute various communication materials, greet customers, sell market merchandise, answer questions, provide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits tokens to shoppers using the program, and sign customers up for the Morningside Loyalty Program.
2. Communications
- Manage MFM Market Manager email account; respond to emails within 24 hours to 72 hours.
- Vendor Communications:
Maintain the weekly vendor schedule.
Cultivate a good working relationship with all market vendors. Review applications, verify application information as correct, and determine compliance with bylaws and policies; prepare an approval/denial recommendation for the Board to review and vote on, and communicate the Board’s decision to the applicant.
- Board Communications:
Recommendations regarding new vendor applications and new product applications from existing vendors.
Written reports to the Board per special request. Hold one annual Board meeting at minimum to move Market priorities forward and collaboratively work towards a vision for the Market in the upcoming year(s). Convene ad-hoc Board meetings to resolve issues or discuss topics that arise over the course of the year per need.
- Community Communications:
Publish email newsletter on a weekly basis for 2,600+ subscribers. Post on social media (Instagram and Facebook) twice per week at minimum.
3. Market Growth & Community Building
- Recommend ideas to improve the Market for our community.
- Recruit and manage musicians and/or chefs for market demonstrations.
- Recruit and manage volunteers.
- Meet with the Marketing Team on a weekly basis (a team of dedicated community volunteers who help promote the market and volunteer on a regular basis).
- Solicit sponsorships and communicate with sponsors regarding benefits.
- Maintain relationships with community partners.
4. Compliance, Record Keeping, and Finances
- Collect electronic records of all vendors’ certifications, proof of insurance, and other documentation required.
- Review vendor booths and products for compliance with the rules and policies of the market; record and communicate all exceptions to the Board.
- Track customer attendance numbers each week. Track vendors’ sales each week; log for reference and data analysis/reporting/grant writing.
- Maintain detailed information regarding schedule, contact information, etc. for all vendors.
- Develop budget, order supplies, track spending, maintain receipts, create invoices, pay bills, and pay annual taxes
Requirements:
- Brings a passion for food, especially local, seasonal, and organically grown food.
Brings a desire to cultivate community among eaters, growers, makers, and all that join our community each Saturday morning.
- Embodies a welcoming presence and serves all who come to the Market in an equitable manner.
- Responsible for own transportation.
Must provide their own smartphone and computer.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift at least 30 pounds.
Highlights:
Compensation: up to $1,600/month for 16 to 20 per week on average
Market Physical Location: 1411 N. Morningside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30306 (in the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta at Morningside Presbyterian Church). This job is remote, outside of Saturday.
Reports To: Board President or other Board Designee
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $22.00
