Closter Farm and Livestock Co. is a 7-acre certified Organic and Real Organic farm in Closter, NJ, dedicated to producing high-quality vegetables, poultry, and fruit. Our mission is to provide our community with fresh, Organic produce and meats through our on-site farmstand and to increase awareness of Organic and regenerative agriculture through educational events.

Job description

Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate person to join our Market Staff for the season.

Seasonal (March - November), Full-Time or Part-Time, potential for year round

Market Staff report to the Market Shift Lead and Farm Manager.

Qualifications:

• A strong sense of urgency and purpose with a desire to learn will make up for any lack of experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with a small team and independently
• Weekend availability, flexible schedule (within reason) to align with market operations.
• Physical ability to perform tasks associated with retail sales, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs repeatedly, standing for extended periods, bending repeatedly.
• This is an in-person, on-site job and requires reliable transportation to and from the farm given that we are located in a rural area with limited access to public transportation.

A plus, but not a requirement:

• Experience in retail and/or food service
• Sales experience
• Working knowledge of food storage, upkeep, and display best practices
• A strong understanding of Organic farming principles and a commitment to sustainable agriculture and a passion to learn.
• HACCP training, food handlers’ and other food related education and certifications
• Education training and experience teaching children and/or adults
• Graphic design or general artistic and design skills (handwriting, drawing)

Hours:

• Summer - one of the following shifts: 8am - 4pm, 9am - 5pm, 11am - 7pm
• Winter - 9am - 4pm
• Part Time 2-3 shifts per week
• Full Time 4-5 shifts per week
• Each shift includes 1 paid hour of break/lunch 
• The position starts in March and must be available through the end of November, and we will give preference to candidates seeking year-round employment with a desire for growth

Compensation:

• Salary: $16-18/hr, commensurate with experience.
• Free family produce and meat.
• 20% off all products in our store.
• Many, many samples, trials, and snacks.
• Worker’s comp, UI, FL.

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $16.00 - $18.00
