Company description
Our diverse 175-acre farm includes 5 acres of certified organic vegetables and flowers, certified organic hayfields, pastured chickens and turkeys, and organically managed pork and beef. Almost all of our vegetables are marketed through our FarmShare, our Community Supported Agriculture program. Our meats and eggs are marketed on farm and at the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market. Our farm is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture through biodiversity and community education. Many of our ventures are certified organic, and the entire acreage is protected as farmland forever via an agricultural easement.
Job description
Work week is Monday-Friday up to 40 hours/week; generally 7:30 am start.
This position includes planting, cultivation, and harvest of vegetables. The ideal candidate will have no issue working outdoors in all weather (heat, cold, rain, sun) and doing repetitive physical tasks like hoeing, transplanting, carrying totes of vegetables, etc. This is an excellent job for people with skill at learning a system and anticipating the next step - it is sometimes repetitive, but more often highly variable, requiring adaptation to surroundings and the situation.
The ideal candidate knows how to drive a stick shift; being willing to learn if you don't know is an acceptable alternative. This is for a farm truck, not on the road, so a license isn't required (although you need to be able to get yourself to work in a rural location without public transport).
The position runs from April 1 through October 31, with potential to run through November for the right candidate.
We are open to talking to candidates who are only interested in a part-time position, 3 or 4 days a week.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
