We are a 60 acre, MOFGA Certified Organic vegetable farm that grows about 25 acres of vegetables for our CSA and wholesale customers. We are in our tenth year of production and are growing each year to meet the demand for local, organic produce.
As a mixed vegetable operation, all staff on the farm get to be part of seasonal produce production in the short-season climate that is Mid-Coast Maine. The work is variable, challenging, and rewarding. We work in all weather; we work as a team to meet the tight deadlines of harvest and delivery. Job description
Position: Field and Harvest Assistant
Tentative Start Date: 4/1/25
Primary Supervisor: Field Manager (Katiana), Team Leads, Owners
Position Type: Full time (40-45 hours in Spring, Summer and Fall; 30-35 hours in Winter)
Description:
This is a starting level position. Farm field workers can expect to both learn about and be part of many critical operations on the farm. As a medium-sized farm, we can offer advancement and more responsibility to the right candidates who show thoughtful engagement with the work, dedication, and a team approach. While the position is seasonal for many folks, we offer year-round work to all staff who commit to working a second season. We encourage those applying to consider this possibility for a year-round position.
Our schedule and workload vary by season, but field employees can expect the season to loosely follow these seasons:
Spring: Field clean-up and prep, plantings, infrastructure projects, training, getting to know the staff and physical requirements/expectations of the job, learning about field plans and locations
Summer: Harvesting, transplanting, weeding, mowing,weeding, wash and pack of produce, packout and distribution begin, hours are longer, days are hotter
Fall: Most of summer activities, large scale bulk harvest, winter prep, fall planting, distribution slows starting October,
All seasons will include some work washing and packing vegetables. All employees will participate in the packing of shares for each delivery.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday 7:00 AM-3:30 PM April-December. M-F 8:00 AM-3:30 PM Jan-April
Lunch is ½ hour unpaid, and each employee has a paid 15 minute break in place in the AM.
Job Requirements:
Employees must be on time, responsible and reliable.
Demonstrated farm experience or other outdoor or fast-paced seasonal work preferred.Ideally on a for-profit farm.
Consistent attention to detail and a high standard of work.
Must be capable of heavy physical work in all weather conditions, cold/heat/rain etc.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently while working alone.
Employees are expected to be team players, comfortable taking direction and following direction from both Beth and Eric and each other, and comfortable taking constructive criticism that improves the job being done. Employees are expected to be respectful and kind to one another.

Earned time off - Accrual of 1 hour per 40 hrs worked. Yearly roll-over with no penalty.

Pay: Starting pay $18.00/hr. More with demonstrated farm experience, greenhouse management experience, and tractor operator experience.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
