WFCF is a nonprofit organization in its 30th season of farming. In addition to running a mixed vegetable farm, WFCF’s operations include robust education and food access programs. WFCF supplies food to our CSA, Food Access Programs (such as Mobile Outreach Market, and Veg Rx), as well as local food access partners, Waltham Public Schools, and various events throughout the season.

About the Position: The Farm Stand team is responsible for helping with all aspects of successfully running our weekly CSA distributions and retail Farm Stand, ensuring guests have the best experience. Both programs operate from our barn Wednesday - Friday 2:30-6:30 & Saturdays 9:30am-2:30pm. The CSA program at WFCF provides 20 weeks of farm fresh vegetables and Pick-Your-Own crops from early June through late October to over 400 families. CSA members sign up and pay for their shares in advance. The Farm Stand is open to the public as well as CSA members and offers locally made products from small producers across New England and produce from WFCF and neighboring farms. Please note: This work can be physically demanding. Candidates should be able to repeatedly lift up to 40 pounds, should have an awareness of body mechanics and their own physical capabilities and limits.
Key Responsibilities
- Check in CSA shareholders and provide weekly pickup and Pick-Your-Own information
- Engage 1:1 with shareholders about their CSA experience, vegetables, recipes, and farm news
- Keep produce bins well-stocked and tidy throughout the shift
- Price and stock Farm Stand retail products, with an emphasis on aesthetics and presentation
- Maintain Farm Stand cleanliness and merchandising
- Use Square POS system to check out customers in the Farm Stand, including SNAP, HIP, and FMNP transactions
- Help maintain a clean and orderly barn environment as well as surrounding areas
- Assist with all aspects of setup and cleanup before and after every shift
- Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all guests on the farm
- Convey a strong, informed understanding of the farm, our products, the organizations involved, farm practices, CSA procedures, and other relevant information
Qualifications:
- Experience with or interest in organic vegetable production, farm stand sales, and/or seasonal cooking
- Experience in a retail, food service, or other customer service environment is preferred
- A friendly and welcoming demeanor and desire to engage with guests on the farm
- A strong work ethic and sense of urgency when completing time sensitive tasks
- Prior POS experience is a plus
- Reliable and punctual
- A positive attitude and good sense of humor
- Willingness to work in all kinds of weather
- Ability to work cooperatively on a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb. and do heavy lifting repeatedly and safely throughout each shift as needed
Compensation: $15/hour, a Lil 20-week CSA share, and a 20% discount at our Farm Stand
Available Shifts: Option to work multiple shifts is available!
- Thursdays 1:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (June 5 - Oct 23; no shift July 3)
- Fridays 1:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (June 6 - Oct 24; no shift July 4)
- Saturdays 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (June 7 - Oct 25; no shift July 5)
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
