Fort Lewis Lodge & Farm is a full-service inn located on a 3,300-acre historic farm in the mountains of western Virginia. The inn offers 24 accommodations, three-miles of private onsite river frontage, miles of hiking trails, and acres of land to be explored. 

The restored 19th century Lewis Mill Restaurant serves seasonally-inspired, family-style dinners and breakfasts. Menus change daily and always provide a plethora of options including side dishes comprised of vegetables just plucked from the farm’s own gardens, grilled meats, freshly baked breads, and homemade desserts. 

Fort Lewis is also a working farm. The pastureland is used for a grass fed cattle herd, chickens, goats, horses and pigs are cared for, and fresh produce is grown on property to be used in our kitchen.

There is a thriving young scene in Bath County, with other young entrepreneurs farming the land, making cider, running a farmers market, and active in outdoor adventures. Great networking potential for those seeking it!

Job description

We are looking for a cook to work in our kitchen/restaurant for our 2025 season lasting from April through October. The position includes onsite housing in a small cottage beside the river. We need a cook to help prepare and serve breakfast and dinner for our guests. Professional training is not required, just a love for cooking! The position would be a great fit for a single person or potentially two people looking together. 

Breakfast shift begins at 8am and dinner shift begins at 5:30pm. Each shift is around 3-4 hours. Position involves both food preparation and serving. 

Due to our rural location, you must have your own transportation. The onsite, 2-bedroom cottage has it's own kitchen, laundry, bathroom, and living room space. 

For those seeking, there are opportunities for an expanded role into other aspects of the Fort Lewis operation. The woman who held this position during our 2022 and 2023 seasons had an interest in wellness and built out fitness programming and retreats. We are open to this or other opportunities/ideas.  

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
