Quackenbush Farm is located in the beautiful Clackamas River Valley, about 30 minutes southeast of Portland. Our focus has primarily been diversified, organic, fresh market veggies, with an emphasis on heirloom and old-world varieties where flavor is more important than shelf-life. The farm is a thriving business with our main markets being our weekend farmer’s markets, wholesale (school districts), restaurants, and a small on-site farm stand.
Our production methods revolve around intensive, sustainable annual crop production. We are certified organic and utilize a variety of conservation practices to minimize our impact on the land and soil, including cover cropping, crop rotations, reduced tillage, pollinator plantings and hedgerows, and more.
Job description
This is a seasonal position that assists both with the harvesting and marketing of farm produce. You will work closely with our Market and Harvest Manager in setting and achieving weekly harvest goals, as well as preparing for and executing our 3 weekly farmer’s markets. Approximate season is April through November, with the possibility to stay on part-time through the winter.
Primary Duties:
Markets:
- Driving delivery truck to/from farm Saturdays and Sundays
- Supervise market staff in loading/unloading of truck, set up and breakdown of market booths, display, quality control.
- Keeping market inventory and sales records
- Assist in sales and customer service
On-Farm:
- Assist market/harvest manager two days per week (Weds/Thurs or Thus/Fri) on the farm.
- Harvest, sort, clean, and store farm produce
- Assist in any other farm tasks as needed
- Keep harvest records
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license is required to fulfill job duties (driving farm vehicles on public roads)
- A vehicle to commute to farm and/or markets (farm is in a rural location without access to reliable public transit)
- Experience in a fast-paced work environment, such as food service, retail, construction, agriculture, or similar field.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, working on your feet all day, lifting up to 50lbs frequently and 80lbs occasionally, and in all weather.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to comfortably do simple mental math on the fly.
- Ability to balance speed, efficiency, and attention to detail in routine tasks.
Desired qualifications:
- 2 years of previous retail, food service, or farm/harvest experience.
- Experience driving larger vehicles. We use a 16’ box truck for deliveries.
- Leadership/management experience in the work environment.
Schedule
- Full time ~36hrs/week. Sat/Sun required for markets, and either Weds/Thurs or Thurs/Fri On-Farm.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
