Job description
We have 2 temporary, part-time positions that will be part of our Community Leadership Initiative. Community Leadership Initiative is DC Greens’ leadership development program. Through CLI, community members with lived expertise are hired for positions at a variety of levels within the organization to contribute to the work and provide meaningful input in key areas, such as program development, strategic planning, partnerships, and community outreach. CLI staff also gain invaluable experience in nonprofit work and community advocacy.
Responsibilities of this position include educational outreach on DC Greens programs, engaging directly with community members, collecting various types of feedback during events and promoting organization-wide engagement initiatives. Ambassadors may be expected to represent DC Greens during meetings with partners, donors, and other stakeholders associated with the organization. Ambassadors will receive training to bolster administrative skill sets, conflict resolution training, media and communication coaching, resumé building, a professional headshot, and more.

Essential Job Functions:
Program and Policy Support
- Create a welcoming environment for visitors at The Well at Oxon Run, working in conjunction with DC Greens team members to guide activities for on-site events, including volunteer and program sign-ups, obtaining consent for contact from community members, and recruiting participants for engagement efforts
- Support content creation efforts at all events, including taking photos, conducting surveys, and capturing community testimonials
- Research local food resources to guide DC Greens in sourcing partners for The Well at Oxon Run
- Attend weekly team calls and additional trainings as required
- Staff outreach tables at local fairs and other public events
Organizational Support
- Attend Community Leadership Initiative meetings with other DC Greens community leaders and program staff.
- Actively participate in discussions and provide input and feedback as needed
- Provide and solicit input from community members via feedback requests, focus groups, surveys, one-on-one meetings, and other methods
- Participate in media initiatives and speak about personal experiences on public-facing platforms
Qualifications
- Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about food and health justice topics in D.C.
- Knowledge about the Produce Plus program, DC Greens’ produce prescription program, Produce Rx, and federal assistance programs is preferred
- Strong, positive, and active relationships with people and organizations in your community
- Conflict resolution/de-escalation skills
- Good time management skills
- Outgoing personality and a good listener
- Ability to make others feel comfortable and heard
- Comfortable utilizing technology and participating in both remote and in-person meetings
- Ability to travel throughout the D.C. metro area and attend regular events at The Well at Oxon Run
Salary & Benefits
This is a temporary, part-time (30 hours per week on average), hourly, non-exempt position. Hours may fluctuate based on work plan and seasonal activities. The hourly rate for this position is $23.50, starting in February and ending on June 30, 2025. This position is not eligible for benefits or overtime.
Compensation
