Company description

Stehekin Valley Ranch is a full service, rustic, guest ranch located in the remote community of Stehekin, WA. Folks must take a boat, plane or their own 2 feet to get to this mountain paradise.  Stehekin is located within the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, which is part of the North Cascades National Park Complex. Known for its beauty, this area offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities.

Our Ranch operates a full service kitchen and dining room to serve the 35-50 guests staying in our cabins. For dinner, we also welcome additional customers from other parts of the valley, with our total head count maxing out at 75 people. All meals are served buffet style, with additional items available to order. 

We pride ourselves on providing quality food created from scratch. You will not find pre-cooked meals in our kitchen. We also strive to use as much fresh and local produce as possible as it is in season. We have a large garden and employ a gardener to work with our kitchen staff to produce as much of our own produce as we can.

The Ranch is also off-grid. We produce all our own power with an advanced solar array. We operate on battery power at night, and have a back-up diesel generator. We do strive to conserve power so that we run the fuel burning generator as minimally as possible.

The ranch has been in operation since 1983, and we pride ourselves on providing a welcoming atmosphere for our guests. We have many repeat customers who are more like “ranch family” than guests. If employed you will become an extension of our family also. 

We expect our staff to work hard with enthusiasm and a desire to get the job done right the first time. We delight in a member of the team who “owns” his or her job, and with the proper attitude you will have a lot of fun. During your free time you are welcome to participate in ranch activities such as riding, kayaking, hiking, fishing, etc. Remember, though, this is not your summer vacation – it can be strenuous work.

Job description

Our staff is very important to us and to succeed we must work together as a team with one goal in mind: to provide the best experience possible for our guests.

We believe that a well compensated crew will be happier and thus more productive. In addition to the hourly wage, we also provide housing and meals for our summer staff, and you can expect to get a share in tips as well. 

Available Positions:

We are currently looking for several team members to fill out our summer staff. Please visit our website for full descriptions of all available positions, but here is a quick summary of our kitchen positions:

Dinner Cook: We serve a rotating "Daily Special" each night. This could be anything from prime rib to chicken. The dinner cook is responsible for preparing the special along with sides of vegetables, a starch, and bread. These items are served buffet style, and the dinner cook will be responsible for keeping the line stocked throughout the dinner service. The dinner cook will also help with clean-up after dinner. 

Prep Cook: This position works along side the dinner cook. The prep cook is responsible for creating a variety of salad options to stock the buffet line. In addition, the prep cook is responsible for cooking alternate menu items to order for those who do not want the special. These items are things like steaks, chicken, fish, and burgers. The prep cook will also help with clean up after dinner. 

Breakfast Cook: This position is responsible for both breakfast and lunch, but lunch is generally very simple as many of our guests pack their lunch and are not around for this meal. The breakfast cook will need to have some basic baking skills, as they will be making biscuits and cookies from scratch daily. In addition, they will provide quality breakfast fair, and be competent in cooking eggs and omelets to order.  For lunch, in addition to stocking a sandwich bar, we are looking for a cook that enjoys a bit of creative license to turn leftovers from dinner into delicious soups and other fun specials. They will also be expected to cook burgers and grilled cheese to order. 

Kitchen Helpers: This position involves a lot of dishwashing and clean up, but also helps the cooks with other tasks as needed. If you are into baking, we can put you to work making delicious desserts from scratch for dinner as well. 

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $17.00 - $28.00
