Company description
Owl Wood Farm is a small, diverse vegetable operation located in Salem, NY. We are Certified Naturally Grown, following organic no-till growing methods on 1.25 acres, and strive for a harmonious relationship with nature through small scale biological agriculture. We sell at three local farmers markets, have a small CSA program, and wholesale to multiple local outlets. We grow a diversity of vegetables from Arugula to Zucchini, and focus on being fast and efficient while maintaining a fun work environment.
Job description
We seek one to two employees to help us for the 2025 season from April through October. This is a great opportunity for those looking to start their own farm, or who want to learn about local food systems including how to grow food sustainably on a small scale.
Tasks will include all aspects of organic vegetable farming including greenhouse seeding, transplanting, bed preparation, weeding, harvesting, and washing. These tasks can be repetitive and in all weather conditions, so a positive attitude and quick pace are invaluable.
We are located 500 ft. from a wonderful river for kayaking and swimming. Lots of hiking and biking in the area as well. The crew will have 2 days off per week (the standard schedule is Tuesday-Saturday).
Experience is helpful but we are willing to teach anyone eager to learn the skills required. Housing on the farm is available for a small monthly fee. It is a two bedroom trailer with shared kitchen, bathroom, and common area. Free produce from the farm is also offered.
